focus on the middle class. i expect 2018 budget to be populist, especially towards middle class concerns.

Why? Middle class dont got to vote, and are extremely moody. BJP vote this election by OBC votes and thats the stategy for 2019

Amit Shah needs to get his calculations right or borrow ideas from the republicans like gerrymandering.

young patidars were not going to vote for BJP anyway. biggest problem in India in the future will be reservation. this is not limited to Gujarat. see how it impacts upcoming elections

BJP tends (from the sample size of 2 states. Although I am sure they have won their share of close seats in other states as well) to lose a lot of close seats. So this is one are where Amit Shah's team can make major improvements in by just better election management with out any policy improvements, poll promises or sops from the Namo and govt.

Congress has gone beyond all expectations that too in BJP's bastion.

I just hope Pappu stays far from people like Diggy raja and surely they can come out as good opposition in 2019.

Hate the caste politics that was played. It was never considered prominent since last 20 years. So many fringe groups trying to gain prominence and grab the power. As a Gujarati, I have mixed feeling about this win by BJP.  Wanted more, but in the end it should make BJP introspect more and keep them on their toes. This was always going to happen once Modi moved on. He had that aura since years now that others are not able to live upto. They need to find similar leaders to fill the power vacuum, cannot live on Modi hype forever. Let them churn and find leaders who will stand out in next 5 years.

Having said that, come 2019 loksabha elections, Gujarat will vote for Modi no doubt about that. Still has amazing emotional connect with everyone.

Hardik Patel's Chutiyapa worked. Question is, is the loss of patel vote reversible? If it is, BJP should be fine in Guj next time (since they seem to be gaining tribal vote - and this is a long term trend), else...

BJP is in the govt (centre + 19 states now). So they have at their disposal, countless numbers of tools to swing votes their way. If Namo bitches about anti incumbency in 2019... well, it will say more about his incompetency and we will know that he's isnt the hindu hriday samrat he claims to be AND we should bring someone else to carry the hindutva flag.

My honest assessment was that , BJP may loose Gujrat and tough fight in Himanchal and may loose there too. All down to GST and them Baba Ram Rahim and every other day media witch hunt against BJP.

Well done to the people of the two states

did he say something?

Stopped short of going mc bc, IMO. Called out the casteism project of gungadeens. I think all election campaigns from here on will follow the GJ template.
