Instead of sticking to a particular length for testing the batsman his line and lengths vary too much giving many loose deliveries. A bowler who has taken 300 test wickets needs to be much more brave. The problem with Ashwin is his consistency when he is not getting wickets.Rahane promotion and Ashwin's inability to take wickets contributed more for this draw.

While a captain can not afford more then one or two players in his good books but Captain must be in good books of every player. If a player like Tendulkar needed stellar performance of GG and MSD to win a world Cup, How do you think that someone who kicks GGs butt openly will ever get that support. Kohli may be genious bat, but Cricket is played by 11 players. And coach role is equally important. No ball, Miss catches are just beginning of Shashtri effect. Coach Shashtri is more advanced version of Duncan Fletcher So now Shastri is to blamed for buttered fingers of fielders. You must be kidding. Kohli has been dropping catches left and right even during Kumble's era. Now you are telling me players are not playing well just to deny Kohli test wins.

Its captains job to ensure 11 players play as a unit and not as individual. because he is the one who players turns to , to offer him their opinion or something players notices during game. How captain reacts, is not in players hand Edited December 6, 2017 by mishra

Batting team cannot make much dent on the score in those overs but can easily lose a wicket or two. You have a point but there is no guarantee too. 16 overs is good enough for a team to pick early wickets and India got 3 which is pretty good. But remember, if somehow the Sri Lanks survived an extra 5 overs for the same loss and perhaps they get enough time to score 350 today, it would have been a LOSS......... and not a DRAW........... We should thank heavens that it is still a draw and not a loss... Edited December 6, 2017 by sarcastic

Well, after seeing today's score card.... I might be tempted to say "yes". They still got some more overs and not finished at 299/5. They did not save this test match but played out a normal test innings and scored almost 300. What is the guarantee they would not have scored another 60 runs..... given sufficient time :-) Edited December 6, 2017 by sarcastic
putrevus Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 Some people think winning test is easy, just because this team swept SL in SL, they would do same here.Playing with just 4 bowler was a mistake. They underestimated SL and SL played with 7 batsmen. Ashwin and lack of catching is a worry for this team. They cannot play with just four bowlers and expect to win in SA. mancalledsting 1

Kohli was playing safe in his declaration and even his field setting on 5th day was defensive. But anyways, bowling was so below par on the 5th day. FFS, 2 wickets on 5th day is almost unheard of and that too no.1 team is playing no.7 at home.

Knock another 50 runs off target- different story and we'd be in trouble. Timing of declaration was perfect, what held us back was SL delaying tactics with the pollution fiasco, only playing 4 bowlers and mainly India's dropped catches. Can't factor in dropped catches into the timing of your declaration. Edited December 6, 2017 by mancalledsting

But yes I agree, 4 bowlers came short, they had lost steam on 5th day and dropped catches/stumping were the reason for this result. Poor performance. mancalledsting 1
BeautifulGame Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 AWhat cost us was not playing 5 bowlers not late declaration. The Dark Horse 1
Sean Bradley Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 NO I don't agree that the declaration came late, you never know, if srilanka would have had a sniff of target they would have managed to chase around 325 to 375 with set roshen silva, de silva and dickwella, but on the contradictory had they been well within their reach they might have ended up throwing their wickets and choked. It goes both ways, though the real reason that we couldn't win this match was complacency, indiscipline in the field, maybe we went out with the mindset after bagging 3 Lankan wickets previous evening, "chalo lanka hai, koi nahi, aaram se jeet jaayenge" , but Dhananjaya de Silva and the resilience of Roshen Silva shocked us, and we just weren't prepared for these srilankan new comers, so credit where its due, well done Sri Lanka. sarcastic 1
