Has the Declaration come little too late?

This may not cost us this test but sets a wrong precedent. This also blows away the theory that Kohli is an aggressive captain who isn't attached to personal milestones. He may not be as conservative as Dhoni and certainly won't set targets of 600+ on the final day overseas like Cool did in NZ but we can't be like this in SA/Eng/Aus/NZ. We are going to SA with a stubborn, tactically inept, milestone seeking, bratty, defensive captain and are up against a very mature, shrewd and attacking captain in Du Plessis. So on the captaincy/team management front Saffers are already ahead.

I am not sure what Shastri is doing. I dint expect much from Kohli. He has learnt his stuff from former captain. But against this average side in fading light if we cant live with 360 on last day then it doesn’t say much for the captain or the bowlers.

The joke is on you if you think Shastri is doing anything :hysterical:

Depends on what your target is.  Our Target was to let Rohit score a fifty.  As soon as he reached there we declared so how it came late.

Exactly, not wasted one ball after the target.

Also Kohli's agent and buddy will be cross if he scored 50 but didn't allow his buddy to score 50. That's worse than losing a test. Yaarana comes first, come what may :partyall:

I don't think they have left declaration too late, if you want attacking fields all day you need the cushion. Pitch is pretty flat still. You dangle the carrot for stronger batting lineups so that they are enticed to go after targets.

For weaker teams without technical skills to defend like Srilanka you want to eliminate the possibility of the win so they are forced to defend all day.

Very apt. I think bad light may have helped us today, but may come to haunt us tomorrow

Kohli was out just an over before, waiting for extra  over is too late? some people are hard to please.

Point is why would you need 400+ against such a bad team. Have no confidence in your top ranked bowlers to finish lankans on a 5th day kotla pitch. And additionally they both were just out there to finish their 50. I mean it was so obvious. People are questioning it because Kohli and Shastri usually talk big in media to fool people and while on ground actions are quite different.

Pitch is still flat and if you want to have ability to keep attacking fields you need 400 plus.SL just batted 135 overs in first innings and Karunarathne has higher second innings average.400 would eliminate any chance of their winning and it will give Kohli ability to attack all day tomorrow.

First test also declaration did not come late, you cannot take decisions based on weather. Some People talk after the fact.
