Why don't teams reverse the batting order on greentops?

yep. they should make chokohli ratman open the innings. let him get a taste of some of that medicine, and see how he likes it, especially sans helmet, leg & arm guards, and the ever-important box.

Valid point, but we have enough protection these days. We can have full body armour (almost) and send them to the middle...not like we expect any runs. Put shin guards, normal pads on top of that, two thigh pads, chest guard, two arm guards, helmet,  specially designed gloves to protect all fingers and wrists etc.

On green mambas quicks will avoid short pitched stuff, if they are forced to resort to that half the battle is won. And the types we see in NZ no uneven bounce (number one cause of external injuries for batters) either.

This wasn't all that unusual in the era of uncovered wickets. Bradman's GOAT knock of 270 while batting at 7(!) was played in a game where they reversed the batting line-up in the 2nd innings. I wonder when was the last time this strategy was used .

It's a bit like saying that on a pitch that's progressively getting worse one should get only your batsmen to bowl in the first day or two, so that you can save your real bowlers for when the pitch is really bad.

Idea sounds good as a theory but in practice I think it would most likely be 2-5 wickets down wihin the first 10 overs. Then imagine you're looking at a scorecard that reads 10 overs, 5 wicket down for let's say 30 runs. Doesn't matter if it's a top order batsmen who comes to bat at 7, they will carry around that added pressure of if their wicket falls, game over.

Wrong analogy, what advantage would that give? Who exactly are you trying to shield in this case? 

 

Maybe comparable analogy is if 2 teams make 700, 750 in 1st 2 innings on Rajkot pancake, then don't use quicks in 3rd innings so that they are preserved for next test. In that case I would support bowling Kohli, Vihari rather than risking injury/fatigue for Shami/Bumrah.

Once in a while u can try it but u have to keep opposition bowlers in mind for eg if they are inexperienced then its can work like how csk did in a game vs KXIP as ankit rajpoot lacked international experience so it put him off his line n lengths but this wont work-

 

1. if opposition has anderson broad in england condition . Curran wud also be lethal as he brings the ball back in.

2. dont even think about this against starc

3. also need to keep in mind that opp bowler shud be more of outswing bowlers . If they can hit the pads no point like Nz has boult. 

4. Try it as a surprise but dont use it again for long. 

 

Ill use this tactic if 

A. Opposition has umesh yadav type bowler who has issue bowling within limitations. 

B. May work against Wi, SL, Pak, Bang team provided that to they shud lack experienced bowlers . Even Sa attack isnt same in test cricket so it can be tried against them

C. Or may be if opposition has some trundlers even though those guys become lethal with green pitches but atleast batsman can use feet n try to slog.....but high chance it wont work.

It is just the pressure which is the reason for teams not to try this. No matter how good a batsman you are, walking in at 20/4 isn't the same as 0/0. If your tail just lasts 4-5 overs, they haven't done anything to alter the conditions in the middle. It will be like your openers are walking in against fresh bowlers with their tail up and completely warmed up. Just because it was done in Bradman's times does not mean we can try this out now. It also depends on how good your tail is. Our final 3 will fold in few deliveries if we send them to face the new ball. It is better for the batters to take the responsibility instead.

Ishant wouldn't have chased that wide ball like Kohli.

Opportunity missed to try out this batting order:

Ishant

Ashwin

Pujara

Mayank

Vihari

....

Would we have been worse had we gone with this order? Instead of Kohli, Shaw maybe Ashwin and Ishant back in the hut.
