kira Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 I have been watching cricket since 1996 and even though our 90s batting was pretty sh!t too, it still wasn't this bad, was it? Sure in overseas conditions the 90s batting was a one man army which started and ended with Sachin but it still had strong players of spin in that lineup? I have vague memories of pathetic batting performances in the 90s like the infamous failed chase of 120 in the windies but as far as as I can remember that lineup was still great in subcontinent and we still had some decent youngsters in rahul dravid and ganguly who were making a name for themselves, sidhu in the subcontinent was a beast against spin, azhar was also a good batsman in the subcontinent. Now if we look at the present batting lineup, there are only a couple of players who are good against spin bowling, don't think anyone in this team is great in swinging conditions, and only Kohli and maybe rahane are great against bounce. So we just have a couple of good bats in most conditions. Rasgulla 1

shortbread Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 No it is not. It's just a batting line up that is fighting for their place and completely lacking in confidence. name on batsman in this lineup apart from Kohli who has'nt been switched by the captain. One of the most important jobs of the skipper is to realize your best players and back them. Hopefully he will learn from his mistakes. Jimmy Cliff, kira, sandeep and 1 other 3 1

Cricketics Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 Watching the fab four, fav five, even though they were better batsmen, we have come across many tours where we looked equally pathetic even with all Sachin, Sehwag, Dravid, Laxman etc in the line up. Too early to judge these guys. Give them another 6months to an year where they would have played in England and Australia and then we will be at the right stage to comment on them. Remember there are lot of things going against this team. That is the scheduling of all home games for two straight years and then all of a sudden an away series in South Africa, that is lole sending school kids to Kargil. I will give them time, they will prosper. We got some great bats in the middle there with Pujara-Kohli-Rahane. They will surely bring us success this year. I guarantee you. anil__K 1

The likes of Rahul, Rahane, Pujara can and should do better. But they aren't being helped by the team's tactics.

Shunya Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 No, but Captain Genius is definitely worthy of being the worst if he does not learn soon. Rasgulla 1

Someone like Pujara is touring here for the 3rd time.I think same with Vijay....Kohli and Rohit didn’t play tests in 2011 but still 3rd tour for them...for most of them it is already their 2nd tour They are not upstarts anymore

Just feel these guys together will fire in England and Australia. I mentiond earlier how hard it is to come from 2 year home season straight away to a place like South Africa which is kind of like a war zone where you don’t know how long you will last. That said, Kohli-Pujara-Rahane combo have the services of better bowling and I believe together if we stick to 3-4-5 as Pujara-Kohli-Rahane and play the BBS attack rgularly, we should win in England and also in Australia. Together the combination of BBS attack and 3-4-5 of Pujara-Kohli-Rahane must play from here on every test and I guarante you we will win.
