Btw forgot to add, 5 out of those 19 totals are from the dreadful infamous nz tour of 2002 where we all know how the pitches were then. So on merit this batting line up was bowled out for less than 200 just 14 times in 12 years. #GreatAchievement

Even SA in their home ground could not muster any centuries, some individual brillance of devillers , Du Plessis saved them.

The kind of bowling attack they have India should need proper 6 test bats to stand a chance (not Rohit/Dhawan)

This thread isn't about failure in sa conditions, take a deep breath, read the full OP and then reply instead of hurrying to reply just after reading the title

What I meant is, it’s not the worst Indian batting lineup in test cricket as you say. When both team’s batsmen struggled, its an indication of how difficult the pitch is for batting for both team, with kohli the lone centurion.

Only 19 times a batting lineup consisting of sachin, dravid, laxman and ganguly was bowled out for less than 200 in test cricket, 19 times in 12 years

This genius present lot has been bowled out for less than 200 on 9 occasions already in the last 3 years

I am not judging them based on overseas tour, I mentioned in the OP that even in the spin friendly conditions we have just a couple of good players of spin, so this batting lineup isn't even great in the subcontinent

In those days most pitches would be 5 day pitches, and we had a fair few draws. Most of these guys have got their sub 200 scores because of playing on 3 day pitches which are either spitting cobras (like vs SA and Aus in India) or green mambas (like in Kolkata, vs SL 1st test or this series). These type of pitches were quite rare during Fab 4 times, nowadays every other pitch is like that.

I have been watching cricket since 1996 and even though our 90s batting was pretty sh!t too, it still wasn't this bad, was it?

Sure in overseas conditions the 90s batting was a one man army which started and ended with Sachin but it still had strong players of spin in that lineup?

I have vague memories of pathetic batting performances in the 90s like the infamous failed chase of 120 in the windies but as far as as I can remember that lineup was still great in subcontinent and we still had some decent youngsters in rahul dravid and ganguly who were making a name for themselves, sidhu in the subcontinent was a beast against spin, azhar was also a good batsman in the subcontinent.

Now if we look at the present batting lineup, there are only a couple of players who are good against spin bowling, don't think anyone in this team is great in swinging conditions, and only Kohli and maybe rahane are great against bounce. So we just have a couple of good bats in most conditions.

Calm down. You guys treat them like kings when they are winning at home. No it’s not the worst lineup ever.

Don’t you see that this pitch is a bowler’s paradise?

I comprehend the question " is this the worst  Indian batting line up in test cricket " and the answer is still NO :aha:

You might try to answer yourself by starting to compare Tentulkars era in the 90' s but that doesn't answer your own question .

I am really sorry but cricket did not start with him
