mancalledsting
He was nearly out for 7 runs (to a short ball) but for a dropped catch , eventually still got out to the short ball. I have a feeling Virat promoted him to no.3 to either expose him or see what improvements he’s made velu 1 Link to comment
cowboysfan
agree 100% with the OP,he has just one shot against the short ball and its ugly and low percentage shot, cant believe he hasnt worked on it. mancalledsting and velu 2 Link to comment
Cricketics
T20 knock and that too one knock is a really short sample to judge someone as great as Raina for the t20 format. He plays like this in the format and more often than not, he clicks too in t20s. Also those who did not know, he did go to Netherlands to train in the Gary Kirsten academy in the presence of Gary Kirsten himself. I think he will click in t20s and we need him in t20s also. nevada 1 Link to comment
CoverDrive
That's how you need to play on t20s. Better than dhoni for t 20 Edited February 21, 2018 by CoverDrive sergio04 and WC2011INDIA 1 1 Link to comment
Khota
Why so negative? Let him have few games and then make a decision. Link to comment
Prateek3801
Raina's batting was certainly ridiculous from the word go. He should have taken some time to set himself in, the batting conditions were good, and Raina should have exploited those conditions, if he came with an intent to make a mark. But he didn't. He still has 2 T20's left, let's see what he can do. His comeback again defined his problem with short balls. Link to comment
MCcricket
Indian captains n selectors have a habit of flogging a dead horse, Raina, Yuvi, Gambhir, either wrong formats or over the hill or in case of Raina who lost his game n confidence over short pitched bowling n couldnt fix it in ages so there is no hope, get it young talent this mentality is just breeding grounds for mediocrity n our ODI team is mediocre leaving aside Virat we r poor, also test side we need to let go misfits like Dhawan n Rohit n get proper test class batters, n t20 is worse we dont have the power hitters in our team or batters who can score AT 150, Dhoni had started this malaise n he is the biggest cancer useless for couple years n still hanging on, lost respect for him n Selectors. Kohlifan
9 hours ago, Temujin Khaghan said: To put it in simple words - he played with the attitude of a tail ender/ Shahid afridi. He looked like he wanted to make the maximum of his short duration of stay at the crease. Whereas Manish Pandey played like he was entitled to waste as many balls as possible because Indian team needs him to settle down as a permanent player and who cares if we lose the game... Ajinkya rahane plays LoI cricket with this same "entitled attitude". Actually Pandey thought it is an ODI. he only realized when Dhoni was trying to hit every ball that this is T20. adi B 1 Link to comment
kirkutfan
Raina did his job by doing what his team asked him to do. Take a few risks and make sure that India scored a lot early. I think it was impressive that he did that, rather than look pretty, go for a higher individual score and try to impress the selectors. He is the ultimate team player. Definitely deserves a run of 5-10 games, for people to see what he can do. Pandey, Jadhav, Iyer missed some opportunities to freeze Raina out. They have left an opening for the old guy to make his case. Edited February 21, 2018 by kirkutfan Link to comment
CoverDrive
I think situation with Raina is less complicated. He plays a very specific role (play 30(15) type innings) and he has been quite good at it before. He will either do well or fail and get kicked out. There is no aura around him of holding the team together or other contributions like Dhoni or Yuvraj Link to comment
The Dark Horse
Raina brings in the much needed hustle into this batting lineup. Link to comment
