Test vs Afghanistan - Anything to be cautious about? [Pre-match Discussion]

We will be playing the one off test match against debuting Afg starting next week. Though, India should ideally stream roll them and win easily, but can we expect any sort of surprise. I hope our players don't take them casually as Mujib, Rashid and Nabi can trouble us.

 

So anything to be cautious about the Afg test?

the only thing to be cautious  of  ....is that pajura lad scoring a hundred here and playing all 5 test matches in england and getting bowled and lbw by english bowlers and getting dropped after the whole series.

Strengthen the batting order because even with 4 bowlers we will get their 20 wickets cheaply. Only concern is their spin trio.

I would play Nair ahead of Pandya and Jaddu ahead of Kuldeep because we need more batsmen...honestly 4 bowlers is more than enough to handle the weak AFG batting. More or less agree with the rest of your XI. We can always pick 2 quicks based on form/fitness/rhythm the day before the test match.

Nair can be given a chance but Kuldeep is must. On Indian pitches, Kuldeep's mystery spin would fold their batsmen in a day. And if top 6 batsman cant resist Afg spin...you think Jadeja can do a jack with bat?

 

Rather than all those negative approach....we must look to play our best eleven.

 Rashid won't be as effective in Test like he is in T20. The guy relies on batsmen going after him. Pretty much like Narine. Might cause a scare but hardly a worry.

I think Mujeeb will be a better test bowler than Rashid. He can have the Ajmal isque effect with his doosras.

Ideally professional/elite sportsmen should be cautious about all aspects of the game regardless of the caliber of their opposition. That approach will keep them in the right frame of mind and will take care of any surprise that their opposition throws at them. There is no place for casualness in competitive sports. The much maligned 'following the right process' is the way to go and the outcome will take care of itself 9 out of 10 times.

Even 1 debutant is hardly a worry in tests. Here we have 11 such players.

Take test status back from Afghanistan, it must be a mistake, a typo may be, to award them a test status.

Aren’t you from Pakistan? You should support Afghanistan as they learned Cricket in Pakistan...

Also losing your first test is not a big deal. Give this team some more time & matches, I’m sure they’ll do better than many other test nations did at the initial stages...
