Both Dhawan and Rahul need decent batting conditions to score, on tough track neither will survive for long so open with VIjay and one of dhawan/rahul. Eng will give us tricky wickets so irrespective of form Pujara at 3 followed by kohli and rahane. Sami, umesh and ashwin are core bowlers. If we go with 5 bowlers then 2 from jaddu, ishant and kuldeep, if we go with 6 batsman then Nair.

thats recipe for failure

Kohli is going to play the same team.He is not going to play Rahul , Kuldeep & Pant in the 1st test.

For him left right combination is only important when he wants to play his buddies. He will not use that criteria to select Pant.

He can drop Kuldeep after 5 wicket haul citing the reason of ground dimensions. But he didn't drop Chahal.

One failure & Rahul was dropped but Raina played as he is lefty & can bowl 2 overs.

Rahul

Vijay/Dhawan( Both are unreliable)

Kohli/Rahane

Rahane/Kohli

R Pant (Pant has done well vs Eng Lions.Nothing to be lose by giving him a chance here)

D Karthik(WK)

Pandya

Ashwin/Shami (Shami has no match practice & was bowling without intensity vs SA.He was lucky to get so many wickets.)

Kuldeep

Ishant

Umesh

If both Vijay & Dhawan play, then only one out of Karthik & Pant can play.If pitch has anything for seamers, Shami plays ahead of Ashwin. Pujara is out of form.Nair can come in if Pant/Karthik bat horribly.
