[PREDICTION POLL] Will Kohli redeem himself with the bat this time?

2014: 134 runs in 10 innings, HS 39...outbatted by the likes of Jimmy Anderson, Broad, Plunkett, Shami, Ishant, Dhawan etc. Perhaps the worst **** show by a visiting number 4 in history of test cricket in England.

I will stick my neck out and say he will do what his great rival Steve Smith did in 2015 Ashes. Fail on the difficult pitches (+ overhead conditions) but on the slightly easier tracks make the English pay with a couple of big scores which will help us win matches. He will score slightly over 500 runs with 2 150+ scores and 2 50s. Our hero is going to banish the ghosts of 2014 and make the Sky commentators (esp Holding & Botham ) choke on their bile. After this series finally the comparison (in tests) with Smith won't be laughed out of the doorway.

 

Anderson will get him out maximum number of times but surprisingly even the spinners will get some measure of success over him.

I usually care about individual performances of youngsters, pace bowlers and mystery spinners .... Senior cricketers are expected to make the positive difference which is why they have been backed and persisted with over a period of time

 

For quality players, unless terribly out of form (in which case they should not be in the 11), it is hard to have a 4-5 test series w/o  a few meaningful contributions 

 

More than Kohli the batsman, I would like to see how Kohli the captain performs as in competitive games, 1 or 2 bad decisions / selections can impact the result

But Kohli being the mainstay in our weak batting order needs to step up big time. I think Kohli the batsman is equally as important as the captain. Besides huge pressure after that 2014 no-show.

Kohli, along with others, too would like to step up. However, i feel that strategically Ind tends to create blunders adding more problems for itself  .... who knows, things could also go once again like below for Ind (Eng bowlers dominating us):

I think he will do much better this time, with 1-2 centuries and 3-4 fifties. It's a long series, so I prefer him getting couple of useful scores in the first 2 tests and hitting full stride for the rest of the series instead of a century in the first test followed by fading out in the remaining games.

England is not the most difficult place to bat.

 

Kohli will easily do well this time.

The key will be how well KL Rahul, Rahane and ( if selected ) DK perform. We need atleast 3 batsmen to perform more than decent in each innings. One batsman doing well can only take us a certain distance.

@Gollum, I think you are putting so many qualifications.... Stats show that in any given series with atleast 10 innings he is almost at the bottom of the list in terms of averages of visiting batsmen. 

There are three Indian batsmen worse than him but they are batting as either number 10/11 throughout their careers. So, we can make an unqualified statement that Kohli's 2014 England series is worst ever series by a visiting batsman in England in the entire 140 years of history ( with a min qualification of 10 innings).

That was no hattrick, Erasmus missed the thickest inside edge off Harbhajan. What's even worse was the DRS - he couldn't review it, not to mention the non glowing hotspot off Dravid's edges!

If Anderson owns Kohli again that will be more than a decade of continuous hold over our highest profile batsman...his H2H stats vs SRT/VK is out of the world. He has been the key difference in most of the India-England test series in the last 10 years or so, even in 2012 he was a bigger trump card than Monty-Swann, Cook-KP IMO.
