Career saving knock for Pujara. As you can see from the comments above, everyone was going for his head. To be honest, he did struggle a lot earlier. But this knock was gold and India neueded. Rhis.  Hopefully he can carry on from

here theough out the aeries and also knspire Rahane to score some and Rahul.

LOL. Never doubted his test credentials. Hope icfers can make out difference between tests and limited over cricket.

Just because  all of a sudden  he starts coming with  credit worthy performances doesn't change a bit the fact that he had a major role in the defeats in ENG & SAF series. That's why I for one argued that he was inadequate and that he needed to have been replaced by another better  batsman long before. Not saying team management would surely have been able to find a better replacement for him, but they surely needed to make a try for finding one. To be more precise , no player should be allowed to continue, despite being far from adequate even after  7 series in SENA which  exactly was Pujara's case. if allowed this is the result, I mean more series in SENA, more sure losses. That is exactly the same reason, I found Rahane to be more deserving to be part of the team than Pujara , to be more precise Rahane has far better track record( which is adequate)  in SENA than Pujara.Having said that , now that Pujara is selected for  this series(which at the first place I found illogical), he seems  started to prove me wrong and hence I support him. But even this is a start only because consistant performance from him thru out a series in SENA is still  uncertain, which only we will get to know by the end of this series. If he proves to be consistant , then it can be more or less assured that we are starting to witness the 2nd coming of Pujara and hence thoroughly deserves his place moving forward. For a start, today's knock from him was absolutely brilliant.

On a side note, now Rahul has taken the role of  'earlier Pujara', it seems. Only time will tell as to how many SENA series we are going to loss because of his incompetency. Already  into the 5th series in SENA ,it seems,.Still he is the same.

Even the greats of the game found it difficult performing in all conditions especially in their first and second tours. Pujara is a good test batsman who is a beast in subcontinent conditions which is about 70% of the tests we play in. He has been average in the 30% of tests in SENA but then again relative to other members in team (except Kohli), he is still decent as atleast he is able to take shine off ball making it easier for middle order. Pujara is least of our worries when we have likes of Rahane, Rahul, Rohit, etc. who have been inconsistent in all conditions lately. So, firstly we should think about replacements for them, and then come to Pujara if required.

Also, you cannot drop someone from test team who is very good in 70% of test matches. If you just play him in those 70% matches and play someone else in SENA countries, then it could be unsettling for both batsmen. So, as I said, Pujara is currently the least of our worries as we have many other places in Test XI which is more uncertain at present.

I have had arguements with you and others on Pujara several times before giving up. Each time my line of argument was below.

1. Head Coach wants only player who can go and smash it. He isnt that type of player. So there is pressure from head coach who is will prefer someone who can can "Smash it"

2. Captain had allready dropped him several times for his own favoirites. So it means he is expendable and that creates additional pressure on him

3. Logic that he doesnt performed at domestic level makes no sense.  A player plays at different level when he has a Indian jersey on him.

4. Our openers fail consistently (100%) resulting him to be in to face 2-9 over old ball every game. Its expected for him to fave new ball but he is one dwon and dont expect to play new ball each game

5. His contribution to see off new ball is never acknowledged. Take him out and we will have Kohli facing new ball. Get Kohli out and all of sudden we are 7 down before tea on day 1.

6. Captain only selects him after we do miserable in game 1 i.e He comes to side when chips are down. I seriously believe that had Pujara played game 1 in SA and England, Overall series result would have been different.

PS: Bringing Rahane Rahul in equation is meaningless. Rahul is indecisive, Rahane has regressed. Why Rahul is indecisive, I blame team management. I do not rely on averages and stats. I rely on fron foot backfoot movement and how a bat gets out. After all it takes just one brilliant ball to get someone out. And International bowlers have ability to get that one brilliant ball when they are pumped up. In test arena, simple theory is, NOT let bowler pumped up.

He's gone girl guy, this is probably the last away tour we should see him feature in, he won't buy a run in Aus when Starc, Cummins and possibly Pattinson throw thunderbolts at him

REALLY?

How many people thought so? They all need to come and say sorry to Pujara openly!

Rahane avg:s 50+ in all except ENG of SENA  as of now. It is very difficult to trace out  a  batsman who performs such brilliantly in SENA .

We have Jayant Yadav,Karun Nair,Mukund,Dhawan,Rohit and a lot of others who can perform briliantly at home,  but  SENA specialists are such precious. That's why even if  Rahane is mediocre at home we need to persist with him.Having said that his 1st inns score is so disappointing. If he performs  badly  in the next 3 inns, i think it would be curtains for him.

W.R.T others like Rohit,Rahul,Dhawan,Kartik,Umesh,Ishant etc I agree  with you. These are lot lot more worries than Pujara at the moment.

Also another thing I don't agree with you is 'Even the greats of the game found it difficult performing in all conditions especially in their first and second tours.' w.r.t this statement.Sachin,Dravid,Laxman,Ganguly,Sehwag,Gambhir all were having convincingly better track

records in general in ' SENA + WI' after 2 rounds of abroad tours when taking into account their respective batting positions, general superior bowling qlty during those days etc etc. Even Zim was a force to reckon with in the late 90s. It is   against that standard that I am judging Pujara. As of now  only Kohli & Rahane has met that as of now. Pujara seems to have started to turn the tide from now onwards, so I will give it to him.

If Che is changing the tide one way, Rahane is changing it the other way.

Pujara has to get into gear 2 at least, he always remains in gear 1 slowest....

finally its the Score and average that is measured not the number of balls faced in the series.

rahane and kohli can hit a century in 100 balls but this gentleman scored a 25.

Pujara has all the gears, in case you missed his last 2 centuries.

Rahane hitting century in 100 balls. Please let him score 100 first.

It is high time Pujara should be made to open or some highly talented left handed rookie tested .We can't go with the current  in consistant   cases in Rahul and Vijay for ever. Vijay seems to be almost over  with approaching 35 years old. Rahul doesn't simply have the technique to survive various conditions. When we think that, we had an opener Sunil Gavaskar  that we realize as to how far from adequate Rahul is.  Any way Pujara is almost  always opening the inns after the fall of an early wicket.
