He has high tendency of remaining not out and if he has such stats of winning almost everyone of those matches, then it is an awesome thing to do. Dont understand why you call it stupid when we should be cherishing this thing. Teams will die for such players in their team. FYI, Dhoni has 46 notouts in 2nd innings and only 1 in loss. If it was as simple as you make it sound, we would have 100s of players in the world who would be able to do it. Can you share the names of those players that you talk about who has done that more than Dhoni? or even close to him? @Shunya @velu Player - Wins - Losses M Dhoni - 44 - 1 J Rhodes - 33 - 1 I Haq - 32 - 2 R Ponting - 31 - 0 M Azharuddin - 30 - 4 J Kallis - 30 - 2 AB DeVilliers - 28 - 1 M Jayawardene - 27 - 0 V Kohli - 27 - 1 B Lara - 27 - 3 D Martyn - 27 - 0 Yuvraj Singh - 27 - 0 S Raina - 27 - 0 A Ranatunga - 27 - 4 S Waugh - 26 - 1 M Bevan - 25 - 5 M Boucher - 25 - 2 S Tendulkar - 25 - 0 M Clarke - 24 - 0 R Richardson - 24 - 1 K Sangakkara - 24 - 2 M Yousuf - 23 - 0 C Hooper - 22 - 2 Clearly if a top 7 bat remains not out, very unlikely they lose the match. Many have 0 losses, most have 1 or 2 losses. Saying Dhoni plays very well in chases and remains not out in many games is fine. Saying it's a great unique stat that there's only 1 loss where Dhoni stayed not out is kind of stupid because it's pretty much the same for all top-middle order batters, esp. in the last 20 years. construction430
Interesting stats. Yet I seem to have a hard time trying to recall a last match winning knock he's played. Fcuk tard with no self dignity to call it quits for the team and the nation is all I have been seeing lately. Edited October 3, 2018 by construction430 Link to comment

Thank you for the effort with these stats. But then again, why is this a stupid stat? Isnt he the best in this as per the numbers you shared? 44-1 is awesome bcos it is hard to get him out and he does not leave it unfinished(just 1 loss). Isnt finishing games more often by remaining notout and getting a Win an important thing? Especially the middle order batsman finishing games is very crucial because there are not many batsman left after them which can result in choke sometimes and a loss. When you have done this most number of times in cricket history, it is unique. Far from stupid thing, that was my point. velu and UrmiSinhaRay 1 1 Link to comment

"Only 1 loss in xx matches when a particular top 6 batsman (a good one mind you) has remained not out" is like saying "Only 1 loss in xx matches when Aus needed 20 runs to win in 5 overs with 5 wickets left". Aus (or any team for that matter) is expected to win from that situation every single time. Similarly, a top 6 batsman remaining not out is expected to be on the winning side almost every single time. Dhoni has been a great chaser and finisher. But this "Only 1 loss in xx games when he's been not out" is not the kind of stat which proves that. Not sure Jonty Rhodes is a great chaser/finisher. Can't really say from the stats of 33-1, because xx-1 is typical of any top 6 batsman irrespective of whether he's a great finisher or not. PS: I already rephrased it to 'stupid way to look at a stat' in my 2nd post in this thread. Edited October 3, 2018 by philcric UrmiSinhaRay 1 Link to comment
