This guy had one fluky season. That is all. And we started hyping him as some kind of god of away conditions. Such a noobish game. Not sure how these guys train.. they never correct their basics..

I don't think rahane merits a place on current for, but it's harsh to say he had one fluky season. The guy had an avg of 51.5 after nearly 30 tests, which indicates some degree of consistency over an interval of 3-4 yrs. I think a number of technical failings have crept into his game, rather than him being an impostor with one flukey season.

His weakness against offspin has been there since 2015.. tells me that he's not learning anything from his mistakes

Never said he was a perfect player or anything. It's true he has not conquered his old failings, and now he has added a whole bunch of new failings to it. What I was saying earlier was that his performance in his first 30 tests or so was not a total fluke.

on current form, vihari seems to be better than vijay, rahul, rahane and Rohit. I'd play him in place of at least one of these 4 "batsmen".

Rahane has failed for like last 30 matches so he should get kicked first. Not just that it's all about how he batted today, looked like he had no confidence even rohit was looking confident compared to rahane.

Rahane even when he was in form was never Pujara in India or Kohli. He was always about getting one or two good scores per series and they happened to be in SENA countries.

He is the worst batsmen I have seen coming out of Mumbai. Why is he in such a rush, there in fluidity in his batting at all. He has batted at cozy no5 spot a lot where he doesn't have to deal with new ball.

In 3 and 4, he has batted rarely, but avgs around 45. The real problem is his current form. Putting him in at 3 or at 7 won't make much of a diff as of now.

Bad form happens for one series, a batsmen who can score a lick for last 18 months and 5 or 6 different series, it is no longer about form, it is about class. As the saying goes Class is permanent, this guy has no class.

it can happen for years as well. Dravid averaged in the low 30s for many years towards the end of his career. Ditto Punter. Gooch was quite ordinary for the first half of his career. And Rahane is a much poorer batsmen than this trio. He will never be a world-beater, but if he was batting at the same level as he did prior to the end of 2015, I think he would have been a batsman who finished with an avg of 45 or so. Not great, but good nonetheless. As of now, however, he is completely devoid of run-making ability, and should be "rested" (i.e. dropped) soon. however, since he is one of the more senior players, it's unlikely team management will drop him.

He's just a malnourished and uglier version of Mark Ramprakash.

At least Eng dropped him while we have to endure the world's worst vice captain stink it out in every series year after year.

rahane was a better batsman than ramps (who was a chronic underachiever), but ramps is a far, far better dancer than rahane. and it's the latter that matters more post-retirement.
