Pujara shouldn’t open

People wanting Pujara to open saying things like he anyways comes early, doesn’t really make sense actually. Its the whole mental preperation to walk out to bat right away when the innings is over. Yes, its not major adjustment but why should we remove him from the place where he is doing fine.

Lets not touch 3-4-5 of Pujara-Kohli-Rahane as they are doing fine. We need to find different openers if we need to remove openers, 3-4-5 shou”: bat at their current positions only.

Use Mayank and Parthiv or Mayank and or anyone. Yes it will be a bjg ask for Mayank to open but really lets not worry about that. Anyways if we want to have him open for India, he has to be tried eventually so why not now.  If Mayank is good enough and even if he fails, he will rise back.

I say Mayank and Rahul to open. Yes Rahul again.

Its stupid to go the makeshift opener route, and sacrifice one of our best middle-order batsmen.

It would also be stupid to parachute in someone like Pandya into either of the next test.  Perth was the one place where there was a case for Pandya.  Definitely not Sydney.

Yes. also going back to Parthiv won’t be a good idea as we aren’t expecting him to open for India in the future then why play him now?

I would then rather stick with Rahul here who is failing. I feel he will click next test after multiple failures. Having backed Rahul for this long, its better for team to back him one more time herr as it will eb critical part of the series and teo new openers won’t really help us a lot.

Mayank and Rahul I say a better option.

This team has some unique obsessions. Especially the left-right combo which is good to have but not mandatory like these idiots think.

Pretty sure they will play Parthiv and one of Vijay/Rahul will get another go.

I don't disagree, but if you 'back' Rahul, then why not back Vijay as well.  Its a mess.  Vijay shouldn't have been pulled back into the team.  Now if you drop him and keep KLPD, you have a "fairness" problem on your hands.

Bit unfair to Mayank as well, to throw him into the deep end at this point, but I guess he'd grab whatever chance he can get with both hands.

Well Vijay did not start as opener in the warm up, if you remember, he was 3rd choice. So if that Warmup up is to go by, Vijay was only a back up to Shaw and Rahul. Shaw got injured and thats when Vijay got chance in the warm up and scored the ton.

I don't agree a bit with the OP.  In the first test itself Pujara came in at 3-1 just after 2 overs, that means virtually opening and he went on to be the top scorer. If any, won't it be better to go at 0-0 rather than 3-1??  Secondly, this is only temporary , only for this series.

He should be given assurance that  even if he fails as an opener  , he would  regain his 1st down spot where he would get fair share of chances again. On the other hand, if he  can at the least  play out some 60 balls  which eventually can result in the benefit of the team, he can continue as opener too.

Now that Shaw is almost certain to miss this series, Mayank would  be considered . One thing for sure , How ever talented and mentally solid he might be , the chances of  him succeeding  straight away from a realistic point of view  is lesser than even Vijay/Rahul succeeding(would only be happy to get proven wrong like any other fan). And Rahul/Vijay themselves would be so low in confidence  as well. That's why I feel Pujara would be the best bet.

No need of feeling disoriented. I still feel Pujara had been  inadequate from the team's point of view.A batsman who takes 7 tours to SENA   to start performing  in these places would have negatively influenced team results a lot by the time he starts to perform. No second opinion w.r.t that. We should not wait this much for a talented youngster to start delivering because that would adversely affect team cause in the long run. Now that Pujara has started to perform , Rahul seems to have taken  his role. God knows as to how many abroad series this hack Rahul would have influenzed  by the team he starts to perform .But it wold be lot better to drop him and give chances to other youngsters.

But now that Pujara  has started to perform I would back him, but for the benefit of team only.Even now there is no guarantee that  Pujara has achieved consistancy in his performance, which can be known only by the time this series ends. But as of now , he should open for the benefit of the team. There is no better batsman than him as of now to do that  role.

Sending him to pen, doesn’t just benifit the team. It weakens the middle order too. If Kohli fails in the middle than you are not having any guy who is holding one end.

its a joke to ask Pujara to help the team out. Lets find real solution and put a new guy to open than make Pujara open.

If the new guy is anyway playing, he won’t be welcomed with garlands by Australia when he comes in the middle order. He will get same treatment as he will get with the new ball. Heck, new ball might just keep him more focused and confident that team trusted him on such a big occasion.

the  most crucial point in the midst of a very important  hard abroad tour is not the ideal time period to  find real solutions. If Pujara can hold one end , he can do it from any position. If he can't , then no others' can't.Then why not take a chance??

Why not take a chance? Because we are already taking too many chances by trying openers who are failing. Now theowing Pujara up is taking another chance to dent his run and make him prepare differently.

Pujara is a lazy kind of guy who after fielding for 90 overs, might want to take his time to pad up, rather than run and wear pads and come to bat. He rather not be rushed. He might throw away his wicket.

"Yes Rahul again"

In old Indian movies, the Panchayat decides that the guy who raped a girl in the village will now marry her and undo his wrong.

When you said "yes Rahul again", the entire ICF base collectively has experience the situation of a raped girl having to marry her rapist.

Bhaiyaji, you want Vijay and Mayabk then? At least Rahul is younger so I back the younger dude. Both have been ordinary but Rahul seems more promising even al his failures.

Vijays we know is not one for the keeps so I rather play Rahul with Mayank than Vijay with Mayank.

there is no other option   if the aim is to win the seires . We expected a lot from Vijay & Rahul. isn't it ? If Rahul avg:ed 32.5 with a 100+ in the last series ,we expected him to perform better this time, similarly Vijay with such experience and success  too was expected to be AMONG  the runs, isn't it? But they  turned out  to be extreme failures.

If Pujara needs time, when the  8th wkt falls , place a substitute for him . Any way the openers are not giving enough time  for Pujara  to have a bit of breathing space as of now.
