Iyer was discarded too early, he should have been selected over guy like Rayudu all the time.

Good thing we didn't lose him. He could have easily gotten dejected from having been constantly ignored and lost his form from last year but he's still going well. He just could've progressed even further by now had he been getting chances since last year, and he would've won us many matches too.

Good thing is he is not a contender in tests . In one dayers you can survive . The thing is you need to develop some scoring shots without getting out .

Also they cannot bowl lot many bouncers in an over .

Since he is not good at pull/hook , he should continue what he did yesterday .  Play shots on the off side .

Whether its the shortish deliveries or yorkers , you can  play shots on off side .with the stance he is taking now.

Sehwag was a never a great player of swing, but he did survive and averaged nearly 50 in test cricket.Iyer has other qualities which will help him overcome his short ball weaknesses.Raina who could be bounced out by a teenage trundler survived for decade in international cricket.

The innings against the Aussies was very special given that it was a do or die battle for him. 2 poor innings, the chorus growing louder about his inability to play high class fast bowling, TM's trigger happy selection policy putting him at risk of getting dumped into the back of the queue perhaps forever - he soaked up all the pressure and played an amazing innings.

That pull shot for six of Southee was wonderful.

Shastri and Kohli must keep crying in shame for not selecting him for world cup.He might have made the difference of India winning world cup and India getting knocked out.At no point in this chase Iyer showed any panic after Kohli got out that is priceless. That builds so much confidence for Iyer and also the team.

The last ODI against Aussies and this T20 win due to Iyer taking pressure and dong finishers role successfully, will also releive Kohli the batsman as he now knows there is someone who can take team to victories even if he is out. Kohli can also play more freely given how things are turning out in last few matches. Even the batsmen coming after Iyer know that they have a match-winner at other end. It just boosts the confidence and morale within the batting lineup.

You haven't understood Kohli's thinking. He will always pick a senior player given a choice instead of a youngster. No youngster has thrived under him till now.

On asked about which pacers will be selected in LOIs ... Kohli himself said in the post match conference, something to this effect ... " You first identify bowlers with similar skillsets and then chose the senior-most among them "

So, that is his mantra.

The most important thing is you don't find bowlers of similar skill too often.

I think the most important thing in that statement was " choose the senior-most among them "

Why not the best among them ??

Similar skills could be a loose definition meaning fast bowler or swing bowler or bowler with some batting ability or bowler with death bowling skill etc.
