One thing for sure- there is a generational disconnect between mentality of selectors who are vying for safety first approach & the new generation of expressive players propping up like Pant, Shaw, Iyer, Gill.

Problem with Shaw and Gill is that they're both openers and that position is already locked. Shaw hasn't played ODIs and Gill failed to impress in the few chances he got.

Standby system works only if there is any long term injury to any pacer and he has to be removed from the squad.

 

Standby system won't work if a pacer misses a couple of matches due to any niggle and is not intended to be removed from the squad.

What happens in the case Shami, Bhuvi or Bumrah gets injured and are missing for one or two games, who will replace them in the 11, are they banking on Pandya to be the third seamer.

exactly, it is really baffling. What is the need for Jadeja, when you have two front line spinners already.

KL could be backup keeper if ever needed. We could've gone in with a better bat than DK. As much as people hate Rayudu, he scores runs.

Is there a rule they should carry only 15 not 16? I would also want another pacer.
