India should have included atleast 1 tear away bowler in the world cup squad

I am not saying don't try. I am saying don't try them in a tournament like the world cup. World Cup is not the place to try out uncapped players unless they have done phenomenal things at the domestic level. I don't think any of these IPL bowlers have done that. You just can't throw names and put them in a squad for a tournament like WC because England is thinking of taking Archer etc. Give Prasidh, Saini, Mavi, Nagarkoti etc enough chances after the WC, so that they will be ready for 2023 or even for the T20 WC next year in Australia. Just saying things like we have 145+ bowlers, so selectors should have put them in the WC squad is daft. From what I have seen of them, they are not ready yet to take on that pressure.

Saini is not just a 145+ bowler, the guy is consistently quickest in the games across teams and is able to produce very low economy rates.. he is clearly better than Umesh yadav who is his team mate, he is even over shadowing some international bowlers..  He seems to be ready, should have been in the squad.

Idea of having tearaway pacer is to intimidate opposition by blowing them away. India's hidden reason to bat second in WC final 2003 was the fear factor that Brett Lee had at that time.  Being an X factor. Shane Bond/Brett Lee/Mitch Starc/Akhtar. They could suck most of the innings. Suddenly they can come back blow away people even with full tosses.  Saini is not even close to that. Nobody is going to be quacking in their boots at the prospect of facing Saini.

That was a different era, batsmen don't fear express pace anymore nowadays

With so many T20 leagues around batsmen have become well adapted to the game

" batsmen quaking in their boots "only happens if he had played games at this level before

Nobody gets to know about a domestic bowler until they see them for a while

Saini won't send down shivers to the opposition simply because he hasn't played at that level yet

Had he played who knows he might have created some sort of doubts in batsmen's mind

You are comparing two different decades.  Cricket has changed a lot now after T20.  Batsmen are more fearless.  Even to blow away teams, they needed conditions.  Dont Brett Lee blew away teams in India.  Did he?  Saini could have been a great asses on SA tour on those pitches.  you needed to listen to ABDV about Saini when he was talking about facing him in the nets.  Saini had beaten Watson for pace on a slow Chepauk pitch hitting on the helmet in his first IPL game.  Imagine what he could do on faster and more bouncier pitches.  Brett Lee and Shoaib akhtar were hitting close to 160Ks in those days around 155K consistently.  no other bowler other than Shaun Tait in the history of the game has done that but does not mean others are not tear aways.  Johnson and Starc both were/are tear away without bowling 155K.  Same with Rabada, Steyn, etc.

He is being given chances , I don't think he is off their radar. He will get his chances in Indian colors too.

what chances?  He is yet to make his debut for India which should have happened two years back in 2017 alone when he was doing well against visiting Aus team or after his good Ranji season before SA tour.  They need to pick a player when he is doing well and in form.  Right time is the most important thing in selections.

IN tests you could pick him. try him. But we already have a decent bowling attack for Tests. Bumrah, Shami, Ishant, Pandya. We didn't exactly miss much. india bowled SA out under 200 thrice in 6 innings. Our batting was the one that sucked. Not bowling. Even in England India struggled only against Sam Curran. In Australia also Indians bowled well. So there was not exactly room for any one else in the squad as Bhuvi was our back up seamer. I have head the same about Umesh, Aaron so many guys. Even Munaf at one point was clocking 145k. Let us see him in longer version and how he maintains his speed. He is not exactly a "missing link" as we like to believe. Our fast bowling department is more than adequate now just like spin department.

Injuries are frequent among pacers ... and loss of form happens too.

Bumrah was not available for the first 2 tests in England  ... Ishant missed the last test in Australia ... in the 2nd test in Australia we played 4 frontline quicks ... Ishant became a certainty only from the England test series, after his county stint and he missed tests in SA.

So ...  spots will open up for Saini.

I have seen Saini sustain high speeds in 5 day FC games, in atleast 3 matches ( basically in all the FC matches I have seen him in the last 18 months )

And the basic difference in 5 day matches between Saini and Umesh / Aaron is ... Saini is much more accurate.

True ... but good backups are always welcome ... to cover for injuries.  And who knows, Saini may even replace Ishant as one of the first choice trio in tests, along with Bumrah and Shami.

^ Nobody can back up pacers more than Kohli. That is the only good thing he has done as a captain. If Kohli thinks he is ready, he will push for his selection.

Agree.  And that is probably the reason why Saini is the first choice backup for the WC.

And I will be surprised if Saini is not chosen for the WI series.

Why should he leap frog Shami or Bumrah. He is not better than them. Bhuvi with his bat is more important.Ishant has become workhorse.Who was he going to replace.

I understand that but you cannot drop them just to play him.I am more impressed with Saini than Siraj. He should have been in the squad for that Hyderabad test and played in place of that Thakur.

I don't watch IPL too much but Indian bowlers have gone to next level. You guys need selectors who are willing to give chances to young bowlers and in long run have a fast bowlers camp where top 15 bowlers can come and improve, atm yes there is pace but accuracy needs improvement otherwise I see a bright future for Indian fast bowling. Tbh you guys are producing more fast bowlers then us but we are taking chance and selecting them as we have seen with Shaheen and now Hasnain although if you look at average pace perhaps Avesh Khan, Krishna and Saini are faster then Hasnain also you have Mavi and Nagarkoti on the bench injured who were u-19 sensation. What speed is Porel bowling at?
