India should have included atleast 1 tear away bowler in the world cup squad

Our seam attack for Eng 2019 will include Bhuvi, Shami and Bumrah which is decent in its own right. But then the backups consists of trundler galore in the shape of Pandya and Shankar. Its still cold in UK and does not appear to have the same heat blitz we had last summer. World cup will be played in early part of summer and there will be still enough assistance for seamers. Rather than packing our team with spinners we should have included atleast 1 tear away bowler in the shape of Saini, Aaron or even a tall seamer like Ishant. Part time spin of Jadeja and Jadhav will have minimal impact and Kuldeep's sudden lack of form is worrysome.

Have we missed the trick of not picking a single 150kph tear away bowler for world cup?

Don't think so because the options really don't inspire confidence. Aaron has not done enough to justify selection in LOI, Ishant should never play LOI cricket again

Saini or Umesh is the only realistic ones of the quicker bowlers, and they could only have been in the squad in the place of Jadeja. Umesh again is simply not a good LOI bowler, Saini has no experience. Jadeja is not likely to offer huge amount with the ball but fielding and batting shade it in his favour...

Thanks to the 4 easter days which was very warm. Rest of the April is pretty wet, cold and windy.

Pandya is gaining speed. Bowled at 140 plus in the recent matches. We need bowlers who can bowl hard length rather than "tearaway" bowlers who bowl filth. Ferguson is a classic example.  Hard length bowler still has to bowl at good speed.

Don't know where you live but here in rainy Scotland it has rained twice and temps are above average . For someone who stood in thermals and a handwarmer in the pocket on a cricket field during April for more years than I care to remember, temperatures this year are warm . April has never been classified as a warm month .......another thing you won't get " tearaway "150mph bowling at that pace if it is freezing

Not sold on Saini in a 50 over game. We cannot go by IPL where he bowls a couple upfront couple in the back end.

Had an economy of 7.5 before this game, happens to best of bowlers, just today Bumrah too went for 44

He is a good longer format bowler, still way better than the likes of Thakur, chahar, kaul etc

It is not about that. He bowls pretty much all balls short of a length at pace. Before batsmen get set his spell ends. In one dayers they will have enough time to line up against him.  You need wicket takers. Not someone who pitches everything half way down.

Did you watch his bowling in first class matches, hid natural deliveries are pitched up ,at times he uses his bouncer to unsettle batsmen,he is a very skilled workhorse

In t20s he is bowling flat out and that is understandable as its mere 4 overs but one who has seen him beyond these t20 would certainly not say he bowls short of a length mostly,

As far as 50 over cricket is concerned ,its more about attacking bowling which is his domain,t20 is all about defensive bowling,as i said he is a very good oneday, test bowler

You cant judge him based on this ,that too playing for rcb

I would like to recommend you to watch his terrific spells in 4 day matches and recent Syed mushtaq ali trophy

Ferguson is a pretty good bowler in ODI's. Check his ODI stats.

You are judging Ferguson based on some T20s played in India.  That is the biggest mistake most people make, judging based on T20s on Indian pancakes.  Ferguson has 46 wickets in 28 ODIs at 28 with an SR of 46.  Hard length also works if the pitch has some pace and bounce.

I won't put Saini yet in "tearaway" category. You gotta shatter stumps at full speed beating batsmen for pace. Atleast lower order like Mitch Starc occasionally does these days.

you are confusing getting bowled by yorkers to tearaway pace.  Tear away pace is more about hurrying the batsmen on his shots which Saini has done this IPL.  Matt Kelly bowls 130 kph but keeps shattering stumps with his yorkers that does not make him tear away.  Same case with Malinga.

A fourth fast bowler only comes into the equation if one of the top three gets injured. We had 4 quick men in the CT 2017 squad and Shami did not get a game. Even Umesh was dropped after the first two.

CT and worldcup is different tournament. Also this is first time i guess we will play all teams so probably will play 10+ matches compared to total of 4 or 5 of ct.

I understand that. If someone gets injured we have the luxury of getting Saini or Ishant in. Till that happens Jadeja's fielding skills might be handy

Pandya is not a trundler...hits 140-145 whenever he wants to. Bumrah is an out and out fast bowler but ya we should have included Saini in place of Jadeja.
