Finish off remnants of D-company in India, esp Mumbai. Crack the nexus between Dawood-Police-Politicians-Businessmen and take over all his property, convert them into govt spaces. We can't kill him in Karachi but sure can finish off his wealth and dhandha in India. His family members are carrying out the illegal/anti-national activities on his behalf, sab ko jail mein daalo, even better encounter kara do. * librats and HR activists...all enemies of India must pay.

I read news that one of his property has already been sold this year.

GoI should never spend on Olympians. That is just show off worthy stuff. Spend on sports at a school level. Let the corporate sponsors take care of the rest.

Why can't they do both...school level and elite level?

Govt can build sporting infrastructure, training centres, labs (bio-mechanical, doping etc) for the Olympians (and future prospects) while corporate sponsors can finance the athletes.....team work.

Olympics isn't just show off, glory for the nation is important but not the be all and end all. Once we have a system in place to produce champions the sports will pick up at national level (eg wrestling, boxing, badminton of late in India), more participation/coverage/money, sporty lifestyle, realization of many hidden talents from unknown regions, entertainment etc.

Read about the effect NCAA (breeding ground for Team USA Olympians) has on American culture, NCAA is synced with America's HS and university sports associations, participation is huge and highly motivated kids, active sports culture in children ultimately leads to a healthier and more driven society.

@Mariyam Chechnya and Dagestan had terrorism problem for a long time. So Putin heavily invested in sports in that region, especially combat sports to tap into the aggressive nature of Caucasians. By 2000s that region started producing Olympic medalists in boxing, wrestling, judo and today they produce the best combat fighters in the world, that too in huge numbers. Suddenly the gun is not as alluring as the wrestling mats and there is a frenzy among their youngsters to rise up the ranks in sports. Today Chechnya/Dagestan region is famous for martial artists and Olympic gold medalists, terror bug has greatly died down. These combat sports also tap into the aggressive streak of the society, gratification in the ring/cage now as opposed to weapons. Sports can have such an impact on society for the better.

Why not do something similar in our NE region and tribal belt affected by Naxalism. NE folks are P2P India's best athletes while Central Indian tribal folk are the most resilient and mentally tough (history of centre backs in Indian hockey team is testament to their guts and pain threshold). We already see NE people dominate in boxing, weightlifting and the adivasis in archery, hockey. Natural ability is there, they are achieving in spite of poor sports infrastructure, don't you think Govt actively investing in such places will have a positive effect?

Give our national sport field hockey the respect it deserves. Hockey has been in ICU for a while and Hockey India is joke of a body. If govt gives it just a little bit more attention we can regain our glory days. I closely follow the competition nowadays, if our administration is set right we can field 4 teams who will all qualify to QFs in next WC, that's the depth in talent we have. Having 20 coaches in 16 years is what is destroying us....and the politics in selection, groupism, arrogant board members and officials :((

@Gollum

The logic re:sports spends is very simple. By Spending on sports infrastructure and encouraging sports at a junior level, the government is encouraging a healthy life style and reducing health care costs in the long run. I would extend this to performing arts too/ treks/cyclathons too. The main objective is to wean away people (mainly urban) from their generally sedentary lifestyle. The idea is not really to create world champions but a population that is in general a lot fitter.

PS: Informative posts re: NCAA and the Chechen/Dagestani situation.

Increased spending of money on sports and large scale measures to revolutionise people's outlook about it is pointless atm. People aren't able to fulfill their basic needs. Sure, such measures are required in future but not now.
