Wake me up when that happens. Even if one of their "tougher" matches get rained off, they'd still need to win 4-5 out of their other 8 matches to have a chance of going through to the Semis. Fair play to them if they do so.

LOL today its slashing down here and next whole week rain is forecasted

Half of the matches include pathetic sides like pakistan, lanka, afganistan, bangladesh. Even south africa does not have fire power.

Best format would have been super six.

Bangladesh is not pathetic. They have a very competitive team and can beat anyone.

Every team can surprise on their day. We are talking practically. They have been a pile of junk lately

Agreed. Odds of them advancing are small. There are six teams that can compete for four slots with no one having a clear advantage.

England, Australia and India have clear advantage. It is battle of 4th spot between WI and NZ or maybe Bangladesh as well. All other teams have already booked their return ticket

England and Australia yes. India, WI, BD and NZ have to fight out for the 3 and 4 position. There is no clear cut favorite and that makes it competitive.

The format is the best... But the decline of SL, Pak, SA has reduced the number of competitive teams.

Pak has  not been relevant for 2 decades and SL is a hot mess. SA I am not so sure.

Pak has decent bowling and if the conditions help them, they can take down big teams. Only SL, Afg look weak at the moment. SA are not at their best but they have the team on paper to be competitive.

So, I agree this is going to be a competitive WC and only the best will make it to top 4 which is how it should be.

I agree ,this WC has the potential to match the 1999 WC in terms of competitiveness primarily because the minnows (Afghan and bang) have gotten much better ,windies are back ,England from being the chokers now the firm favourites .

India,Australia, nzl are similar in terms of strength compared to the last WC, only major decline has been of saf and srl, both these teams were strong in 2015 edition at least on paper .

Any team can beat the other on a given day thanks to the format of 10 quality sides instead of the previous minnow bashing formats ,this WC will be remembered longer

Pakistan is on a decline but two decades is pushing it.. they were still a competitive side that gave us a stiff competition even in the 2011 WC. The Waqar, Wasim, Shoaib era was a league apart though.

Too early to write off any team at this given moment. Hell, even SA can bounce back. It's not like they are an incompetent team.

Don't write off SL and PAK this early either. This SL team was almost similar to the one that beat us in CT. PAK we all know what they can do on their given day. BD is no walk in the park either, more dangerous than PAK/SL. WI might have demolished PAK but on their day, their batsmen will wreck havock, another day, will break. The only possible actual minnow is AFG - mostly due to inexperience. They have the talent to spank the best of the best - inexperience against G10 is what will stop them from winning more than 1-2 matches (atmost)

This is not really a similar SL team which defeated India in CT because it doesn’t have Gunathilaka and Dickwella who were instrumental in that win. SA can’t defeat India and Australia. They simply don’t have quality also now with Ngidi there’s literally no chance at all they should defeat India
