40/0 after ten should be the target in all games.

That’s because concept of middle overs don’t exist anymore. Only 4 fielders from 10-40 overs.

If you lose early wickets 10-40 will be spent consolidating instead of set batsman cashing in.

Are you still living in the 90s :wall:

In 1990s one single power play first 15 overs. one ball. harder to score against older ball with field spread for 35 overs. So Tendulkar used to play aggressively and tone down after 15 overs. Now we play aggressively in the middle overs. With all the blame we have the second best batting run ate in the last couple of years only behind England. All the other teams with depth, with aggressive start still behind India in terms of overall run rate.

Why would you lose wkt by playing normal cricket? Both Dhawan and Kohli have done relatively well. Only batsman who goes into a shell is Rohit and still has a first chance average of only 2.5! Also good batsman carry their form forward so do not need to start from “scratch” in every game

When England was playing on a bouncy pitch against West Indies they were bowled out for 113 runs recently.  They are good only on flat decks against poor attacks.

You sound like exactly after 10 overs Rohit and Dhawan get out? India scored 57 runs from 10th and 20th over.  Best time to score quickly is in the last 10 overs. You could score 100 runs without breaking sweat. Most teams do. In 1999 world cup Ganguly and Dravid scored 133 runs in the last 10 overs ended up with 383 runs. This is 2019.

Are you sure by playing steady we will always have enough wickets to make up in last 10 ?

Funny you bring up that match against SL as an example . They scored 133 in last 10 , but did you check how the score after first 10 ? India was 71/1 inspite of having lot a wicket in first 2 overs ..,this was 20 years back .

Normal cricket lol what does that even mean.

Simple there are 2 new balls now which means you have to be cautious a little longer in the opening spell.

Also Rohit and Dhawan are one of the most successful opening partnership ever in odi cricket

Rohit has the most 180+ scores by a batsman

Both Rohit and Shikhar average high for an opening batsman

that means there is a formula of one guy attacking and the other guy batting long

Indian top 3 are the most feared in the world

Which means the formula has been working

Why would you want to change it just because you are bored. First rule of anything, never tinker with a winning formula

So it’s got easier to bat in middle overs , but difficult at the start these days ?

Don’t burst the bubble

I just don’t get it . If we had to score 40 in first 10 we might as well picked Rahane , we know he would have given that start on a difficult pitch too .

Can Rahane or does he have a track record of scoring 150+ scores and up the ante in the middle overs and hit 6s against express pace . Then sure

Will talk when that happens . I care about what batsmen can do consistently .

Batting style in that era was go hard in the first 10 and last 10. Go slow during 30 overs. Now  it doesn't matter you can pick and choose , go hard at bowling in any block. Compare 71 runs with 133 runs. You can score 60 runs more in the last 10 overs. That is the point. You can make up for the 20 runs we miss upfront at any stage of the game if we have wickets in hand.  90% of the 300 plus totals were not achieved without Kohli or Rohit or Dhawan. Whenever the top 3 gone cheaply we rarely scored 300. Average score of ENgland mighty batting line up in the first 10 is roughly 60 to 70 runs. Very rarely they breach 80. Even during their 481 record, they made 79 in the first 10 and 402 in the next 40 overs.

Who can score quicker in middle overs. We probably lose 20 runs in the first 10. But with the later line up we will lose like 50 to 60 runs in the middle overs.

Rohit, Dhawan, Kohli vs Rahul, Dhoni, Jadhav.

Good players not only negotiate tough spells but also create opportunities to score, which is normal cricket.

I only see Dhawan and Kohli playing it. As mentioned, Rohit has a first chance average of 2.5. The idea is for India to do well not Rohit, who will not be even missed :dontknow:

40/0 in tough batting conditions is understandable. It is dumb to be talking about that irrespective of conditions. And usually only Rohit fanboys do that as they know their icon is not good enough to do a better job as can be seen by his first chance average of 2.5 in the two games played so far

I think rohit's avg in wins is pretty high, even if not as much as kohli and peak-Dhoni (who was pushing 100).

Don’t care for straight forward stats. Where are filters like First chance average and number of 6s hit with the lowest elevation etc etc :hitler:

Lol, what the stats tell us is that anytime any opener or top order batsman(anyone in top 3) scores big, India goes onto score 300+.

Tha tis actually common for all teams in the world. If your top order fires, you are good to go. Be it Munro or Guptill firing with Williamson, or Roy, Root firing on top for England, or Finch, Warner etc.

Top order is the key everywhere.
