Need to play Pant for Shankar

Roach bowled a peach of a spell. He got rid of entire England top order with such deliveries in the recent test series. He is a skillful bowler. I will give him the benefit of the doubt. But if we look at the larger picture, we need a bit of impetus in the middle order. Jadhav, Shankar, Dhoni they all play at similar pace.  So i would slot DK in the backend or Pant above Pandya.

dk is ideal for #4 can keep scoreboard ticking along with kohli.....jadhav's bowling is not important should replaced with pant

I think Jadeja should play ... avg:s 73 @108 str: vs ENG in ENG   , bowl avg: of 26  picking 12 or  13 wkts.  Left hander & a brilliant fielder too. He can compliment the strike bowlers well.

Let us not hung up on "past stats" .  Mostly played against old style team. These guys will tee off against him for sure.

no.... he has played a  fair share of it  against Root,Morgan,Buttler &  Stokes. And scored runs even against Anderson. Even was the man of the match in that CT final in 2013 against ENG. So I think he can compliment the main  players well.

CT 2013 was ages ago. We need proper finishers as we have only one now who is Pandya someone who is not effective against seamers in the death. We need DK atleast Pant to complement him. Dhoni won't do anything until 50th over (assuming he hangs around).

DK or Pant should play but I don't think DK is suited to number 4 role,he gets himself out through soft dismissals when a lot of time is left,best play him as a finisher.

    Yes even i think Selection committee straight away ,post WC should decide who would be best possible no.4 and try those guys till they get the right one .

Feel a good No.4 guy should have the following traits:-

1. A good defensive technique to ensure stability .

2. Ability to manoeuvre the field in gaps and rotate strike with run a ball strike rate

3. Ability to play spin and short ball . If not able to play swing well , that would be fine.

4. Ability to play selectively over the infield as you have only 4 fielders outside the circle and have big gaps during 11-40 overs .

 

I would first try 2 guys in this position hardik & Gill, 

1. Hardik Pandya :-  A good coach would be able to harness his batting ability to the fullest if he tempers down a bit and plays longer . He should asked to stay till 40-45 overs , if he does that runs will come on its own. 

Guy has decent defence, murderer of spin , plays pace well too , quick between wickets  - right now he plays too agrresively every ball .  He  should be considered as a top 6 batter who can bowl 5-6 overs in every match. 

He should be a permanent fixture at 4 or 5 and should be eased to #5 once gill establishes at #4. 

Then we will have Gill at 4 who is stable , 5 & 6 good hitters in Hardik & Pant . That would be good combo , also a leftie among the 3 .

 

2. Gill :-  Good technique , good vs short balls , plays spin well too. Right now he may not be able to rotate strike well . Do not think he does prefer playing over the infield . But lad has a very high ceiling and could be next big batting star for India. A great investment for india. 

3. KL Rahul: Somehow get  a feel  Prithvi Shaw will be more suited at opening and will do better than Rahul at the top. In that scenario KL may be an option at no.4 . 

4. Mayank : could be an outside contender if he maintains his form for 2-3 years .

Keep Jadeja as a strike weapon for Semi or Final.

Indian management missed a trick by not giving extended run at no. 4 to shreyas Iyer. He may not be technical good, but definitely a better prospect than shankar and Rayudu.

Youre an idiot. He would be a good weapon as a slow bowler against Australia in the final. They have trouble playing him.

Kohli is so arrogant to believe everything is running smoothly.

 

India will fail eventually in a final, if they dont make the changes to the team.

 

Its been a soft world cup so far. They havent been properly tested in the early stages.
