India has to explore other leg spin options as well (especially for tests)

Why is everyone automatically assuming Chahal is not good enough for red ball? Doesn’t he have good FC performances?

even his state side doesnt take him seriously in red ball

Havent played enough, avg 30 nothing great about it

his game depends on batsman going after him , in test its more about getting batsman to make mistakes

So everyone has had bad perfomance

kuldeep 2nd test engalnd bowled full toss after full toss

there is not even enough sample to prove kuldeep is better apart from that he is a wrist spinner. A doesnt become better then B without playing

his record is pretty decent overseas apart from 2 countries which even lyon n most great players ull find a problem with

Ok that was his debut test on a green top.  Ashwin I guess played that game as well & got thrashed too

Are you including SL as well?

yes every thing, isnt SL WI for Jadeja to

Even in other places jadeja is only better in Sa n AUs

In AUs we all know what **** batting they had, ashwin has bowled against much better quality

SA - only played one test

As ashwin is better in eng n NZ

So the basis of kuldeep n jaddu is mostly on a series where aus had very poor batting, hence the sample is not even enough to say that

Bhai Yasir ka record check karo, in SNA. Even in Eng his overall avg is in wrong side of 30s. Eng can make heroes out of random Pakistanis.

ya agree.. in the long term we need a right arm leg spinner who can rip it.. kuldeep can go flat at times.. need to see how he does.

seeing our absolutely pathetic overseas performance in this decade despite having a good fast bowling attack , Kumble's role in 90s and 2000s seems even more impressive.. many of our defeats have been because of lower order / tail rearguards.. a very good leg spinner can consistently get rid of tailenders even in SENA with their googlies/flippers

We need someone like Yasir Shah who can rip it at good pace and still consistently landing in good areas. Rahul Chahar is one guy who can do it but of course, he still needs to mature. Imagine how lethal our bowling would be if Bumrah, Shami, Ishant and Jadeja get support from someone like Yasir.

The same Yasir shah averages 60+ in sena.

Have you seen his stats in England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa ?? Pathetic to say the least.....

He did win Pakistan  1 match in that 2016 series but otherwise, he has been pedestrian with 80% of his wickets being lower order batsmen.

On the topic, Leg spinners have always had more impact than offies in the history of modern cricket, be it Warne or Kumble. That is not to say off spinners picked less wickets (as shown by Murali or Laker or Saqlain) but often in crunch situations, leggies often provide breakthroughs and can run through the opposition tail. Only special talents like Lyon and Murali have been able to perform well although Murali has not particularly done well in SENA countries.

Having a leggie is always an attacking option in test cricket as more often than not, leg spinner will get more spin irrespective of the surface (Even Aussie/ English pitches offer descent spin except perhaps for the green mambas of NZ ) and will have bounce as an additional weapon in SENA.

Even in the this test, Yasir looked the most closest to pick wickets when England was inching closer to the target as he was spinning the ball enough to create doubts in the batsman's mind.

True but stats don't tell the entire story. He always looks lethal whenever he's bowling. Much better compared to someone like Ashwin who is always clueless.

Yasir Shah is the worst bowler in history to set foot in Aus, NZ, RSA. Stats back that, averages like Bradman with the ball with many double 100s, and ER 4.5. At times he even goes at 8-10 rpo.

Eng different case, they play like **** against Pak. Put Vinay Kumar in Pak jersey and he will look like Hadlee against Poms.

I don't know the stats of yasir but you should see his performances in the recently concluded test match...

He was easily the best bowler on show from either sides....

There were atleast 3 to 4 chances / half chances put down....

Moreover...one can easily notice the huge gap in the quality of shadab and yasir .... Yasir looks miles ahead of shadab...

I believe Yasir is a quality bowler and is top 3rd or 4th spinner (after Lyona and Ashwin)..

I dont think we have anything close to him....kind of turn and grip he is getting out of the surface was praise worthy

Even England batsmen who are not good players of spin, especially the current fragile test lineup scored 173 runs off his bowling that too at 4.4 runs per over which is too high in test format.

Leg spin is all about confidence. Even slightest dip there will make you serve pies. That is where Kuldeep is not giving me any hopes. He has to improve his mental level also improve his game plan.  Very good batsmen can hit you away. You should be strong enough to put that away and be able to keep coming back.
