I wasn't expecting that music lol.

Craig's movies have the pattern of good bad good bad, I'm hoping this one is a good one after the disappointment of Spectre.

Many of the Bond films tend to fluctuate b/w relatively serious ones and all out entertainers to cater to a variety of tastes. As a Bond fan, I have read books and comics, listened to audiobooks, and of course watched the films. They are all good. No Time to Die is expected to pick the story  from Spectre

The problem i have with daniel craig james bond movies is that the plots have become so intricate and convoluted spanning multiple movies.

I remember going to specture and being on wikipedia half to the time as the film linked back to skyfall and quantum of solace etc.

There have been some epic scenes such as the day of the dead scene in mexico city. That is the saving grace.

But i just miss the time of relatively stand aline clear plot of pierce brosnan era

I call this intricate multi movie plot linking the nolan effect

I guess, Bond films have had to reinvent for the 21st century audiences .... Besides the opening sequence, I liked the plots in Austria (Dr. Swann's introduction) and Morocco (had some beautifully shot sequences that looked good on screen) as well (the twin locations were earlier used in TLD)

As for the linking of plots, that happens in original Bond novels too for e.g. OHMSS, YOLT, and TMWTGG. TB, OHMSS, and YOLT are considered as SPECTRE trilogy. Bond battled SMERSH, the Russian Secret Service, operatives in many of his books. And in earlier films too for e.g. Dr No is a SPECTRE operative in the first film, who is to be avenged in FRWL (In the book, the events in DRNO follow after FRWL, where SMERSH is used instead of SPECTRE  ) .... Sean Connery's YOLT and DAF are linked, relatively speaking, as well as after Blofeld escapes at the end of YOLT, Bond pursues him at the beginning of DAF

Caribbean as a location works well in both Bond films and Fleming's books. No Time to Die is shot in Caribbean too so I hope the parts are interesting

Bond in Caribbean:

Films: DRNO, TB, LALD, OP (pre title sequence), GE, DAD, CR, and now NTTD

Books (full length novels): LALD, DRNO, TB, and TMWTGG

PS Trailer of the 1st film:

SP $300M! It is more like a gift to the franchise fans esp. for making SF the most successful (adjusted and unadjusted) Bond film.

The Daniel Craig Collection (4 films) is coming out in 4K HDR on Oct 22nd. Is anyone planning to get it?

I have all Bond films on BR (Blue Ray) except CR (Casino Royale) and QOS (Quantum of Solace), which are on DVD, so am on the fence on this one as I can look to upgrade CR and QOS or just get the digital ones when the titles come out in 4K HDR (currently available in 4K without HDR on iTunes). Also my favorite ones tend to fall in the first 16 films (1962 to 1989) :hmmm:

007 has lost it's appeal since the Bourne franchise or the MI franchise have taken off. It has become very confused in its approach.

the dark gritty approach in the Daniel Craig versions have been overshadowed by Bourne.

the more ridiculous version of Bond with over the top stunts has been overshadowed by the MI franchise.

The only thing left is the brand value. Also Daniel Craig might be a great actor but has the charisma of a dead fish. No way he can compete with previous bonds like Brosnan.Moore and Connery or with guys like Matt Damon and Tom Cruise.

The only way Bond can make a comeback is if they go back to their campy over the top origins and try to compete with MI in that regards.

I can see the sentiments as my favorite ones tend to fall in the 1962-1989 era. But the recent films continue to make big money (even when adjusted for inflation)

Yes it is the brand value. Can you compare it to other franchises like Bourne or MI. I think the new MI film grossed over a billion and it has a similar premise to Bond.

Even some third rate super hero movies make the same money so that can’t be measured as success. A brand name like Bond should make in the same ball park as other big time franchises like Marvel movies, Star Wars franchise or the Fast and Furious films.

IIRC, Bond is the longest running franchise, which is now set to release its 25th film. Considering it has churned out so many films and lacks the novelty factor, its revenues are still solid!

Is the James Bond story even relevant anymore??.  Only liked skyfall and casino royale in the last 2 decades or so. Rest all very forgettable movies. A Lot of other franchisees have zoomed past JB.  MI, Jason bourne etc.

Of course it is relevant esp. for the “fans”. Bond 25 is coming out, and then the franchise is likely to reboot with a new Bond. Jason Bourne has ended iirc, while there is no news on MI’s next instalment. Though I want MI to continue as well
