maniac Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 @sandeep before going all Bharat sipahi on us, have you seen an official source for the NRC apart from all the fancy flow charts and tweets by online trolls?

And I'm not advocating undoing partition - fully agreed that Bengali muslims of Bangladesh were enthusiastic participants of breaking India. And that they should not get carte blanche to illegally immigrate to India. However, the way BJP has weaponized the CAA and NRC, intentionally using it with inflammatory language, has led to the present chaos. Even for folks like me, who support action against stopping and deterring flood of Bengalis from BD, I find the BJP's politicization of such an obviously explosive national issue, to be counter-productive, selfish and poorly executed. Even the CAA - which is primarily a law to redress outstanding wrongs, and a 'good' law on paper - has been written out, and marketed in a nakedly communal manner - which was unnecessary. And bottomline is that there have got to be better ways to address this BD illegal immigration challenge, other than calling them termites, using insulting languages, using the issue to inflame voters etc. Not to mention a billion dollar bureaucratic boondoggle in the name of "NRC". Thats BS. One side has resorted to complete violence yet you still call them victim. CAA is not a new thing, part of BJP manifesto for many times and it got implemented through parliament. The idea that Muslims should have a veto power in India is the definition of secularism today. We have to stop it. Today, only one BJP is brave enough to talk about illegal immigrants and also offering help to religious prosecuted minority in neighbouring countries. Both issues were favored by various opposition leaders in past, yet for vote bank, they oppose both things today....

By the way, I have not called anybody "victim", nor am I condoning any violence by any side. 17 hours ago, someone said: CAA is not a new thing, part of BJP manifesto for many times and it got implemented through parliament. Being part of a "manifesto" or even pushing a bill through parliament is not some sort of magic. The former is meaningless - just marketing. The latter makes it the law of the land - but let me remind you, countries in the past have passed "laws" that are morally despicable. American law made slavery "legal" for more than a century. Pakistani "Law" legalizes discrimination on Hindus, and other minorities. Until 1947 it was "legal" for a British govt representative to murder any Indian if he was seen to be a 'rebel' - could be an old man protesting on the street with a sign. 18 hours ago, someone said: The idea that Muslims should have a veto power in India is the definition of secularism today. That's your opinion - you see them as 'brave', I see them as cynical political opportunists, who are using social issues to strengthen their political support. In my honest opinion, there are tons of other ways to address the problem of illegal migrants and helping minorities. What the BJP has done is use these issues as a wedge for political benefit.

Before going all snarky on me, I'd suggest you do a bit of reading and research on your own. It is clear that the NRC is not yet defined in its specifics. However, both Modi and Amit Shah have repeatedly described in their public speeches, how the one-two punch of CAA and NRC are to be used to target all the "undesireables", the "termites", the "intruders" etc. It is not difficult to read between the lines - at all. And even if we are ready to assume that the BJP and its govt do not have ill-will at heart - why on earth will any Indian who hasn't lost his sanity, support spending a billion dollars to give Indian government workers the power over deciding whether a person is a legit Indian or not? The cost-benefit for this exercise simply does not make sense - nor does its obvious risk for errors, inefficiency and corruption - i.e. default government M.O. It seems like the primary reason most people are supporting this NRC crap - the "other side" hates it. The naked tribalism, the assumption that it will only be a problem for those "other" people - is what's at heart. The rest appears to be post-facto justification. Stop and think for a minute, why do we want to waste so much money, and give so much power to uneducated, disinterested, corrupt government officials? Regardless of which party is proposing this? Focus on the actual merit of the proposal, not just reflexive support or opposition based on assumptions. Mariyam 1

What about our libtards not getting this? Agreed, that the implementation is tough, but some measure has to be taken to address illegal Bangladeshis. Define the difference between Pakistan's NADRA and India's AADHAR.

Not for all residents, like Aadhar. They have given to illegals. Foreigners, people like me who lived for two years in 2015-17 in India. It is not a registry for citizens alone. sandeep 1
jf1gp_1 Posted December 27, 2019 Posted December 27, 2019 With the whole direct transfer of subside/benefit to citizen, that is one place NPR could help. Such benefit post NPR would potentially only go to citizen. I guess passport / driving license /pan or other govt services could become easier to get. I am sure there would be other possible plus to come out of NPR. I think cost is about 200rs per citizen which could be levied through passport or DL or some other way. I personally am all for any kind of national registry. Govt IT systems are getting stronger with every passing day, this country needs individuals to be mapped and if citizenship number is the one that does it so be it. LordPrabhzy 1
coffee_rules Posted December 27, 2019 Posted December 27, 2019 Naxals in the media are working to not let government function with poems like “Kagaz nahin dikhenge “ , “Jhoot bolenge”, “bakra kagaz khagya or abba bakra khagya” , but when NPR is finalized, the losers will be the people who will lose on benefits. Listen to the stupidity of protests now...2nd Independence struggle by Muslims.. see how seditious it is getting.. Laaloo 1
