if its just a bunch of teens its stupid but not really worth caring about, teens make fun of each other like this.

But is this the real jos buttler he should know better he is an adult.

Jos might have made some light veined remarks there and not targeting anyone specifically. A little bit of teasing around is fine as long as it is done in good sense of humor. Not everything needs to be made a serious issue out of.

Russel Peters makes so many jokes about Indians and I used to find it offensive initially  but then I understand the vein in which they were made and it is not really feel offensive as it looks like.

its a genre of standup comedy - you are not alone many people dont like it ( i love it though - Russel came from where i live and i know why he turned out the way he did this place is a melting pot he roasts everyone lebanese, chinese, indians etc and all turnup and enjoy it), i remember Jerry Seinfeld roasting a swede greenhorn jurno who thought all standup comedians do that it was savage.

Indians mock each other for their poor English and nobody bats an eye. Indians are mocked by foreigners for their poor English and everyone goes crazy.

In fact, people on this site even mock Pakistani players for their English during interviews, yet they feel offended if a foreigner does it to one of our players. People need to pick a side and stick with it.

Anyone mocking anyone for bad English is stupid, colonial hangover.  Growing up in the 70s and 80s, there was this constant crap of why Gavaskar was better than Kapil Dev because Kapil's English was bad. 40 years later, same $hit continues.

Honestly, jokes on us that we make these kids speak in English, a language which only 5% of Indians are comfortable with, if that.

We have unnecessarily made an association between English speaking ability and upward mobility. Why can't these kids be allowed to speak in tamil, hindi, marathi etc? Just use subtitles to convey meaning to others. It's our colonized elite which has created this self-perpetuating notion that not being able to speak in English makes you 'backward'. Once we get over this mindset, we will find that using native languages like hindi, tamil, bengali etc allows people to express better, learn complex subjects more easily, be more inventive, and it will be liberating for indian society as a whole. And then we will be able to sit back and laugh at this juvenile mocking of Indian accents or broken English, as the rest of the non-English speaking world does. You think Chinese, Spanish, Russians, Japanese would give a rats a** if they were mocked like this? Well, they probably wouldn't be asking a young kid like Jaiswal to strain himself to speak in a foreign language like that in the first place

PS - all of the above does not expiate the obvious racism Of many Australians. Their cricket team on a tour to india in 1979 used to throw coins from hotel room and then poured water on poor people who had gathered to collect the coins..an incident narrated with glee by Allan Border in his autobiography. An Australian cricket writer mentioned how players on a later tour would prod people sleeping on railway platforms with their feet. We know the kind of racist crap crowds shout at touring players, yet we invite thugs like ponting etc to earn crores in IPL...So again, joke's on us.

How about the IPL institute a public local language test as a right of passage into each IPL team, and have a local throw a dollar at them for each correct answer?

agree 100% with everything you said there except the learn complex subjects more easily , that too not countering the logic one would learn more complex subjects more easily but to the extent the translated text books allow to be learned ( that is the problem) --> India is not in cutting edge research in every field yet many original research papers are in English untranslated.

But sportmen should just speak in their language.

how insensitive , the poor people were dirty as they did not have money to eat leave alone groom themselves.

throwing coins at them is de humanizing, and pouring water on them as if they needed to be showered is beyond reprehensible. Ugly mfrs they deserve everything they are getting now.

I don't care about this issue much .... but the habit/custom of using "Sir"  (some folks have even modified that to "Sirjee") after almost every sentence needs to be controlled. Also observed that habit in the interview of Pant, where he uses "sir" like "ummm" .... Try to use "Sir" for important people like the PM. Using it for just about everyone loses its importance too

Pant should have a statue of vikrant sir for amount of times he defended him lol

If you tolerate racism, you just encourage it

Yup, it's the same argument forwarded when Aussies would mouth off at anyone, including screaming at umpires, and we were told 'its part of the game, we know where the line is'...Lol we saw where the line was in South Africa tour and 'brain fade' , and in Warner's assault on deCock all right!

If you see the record of Indian U-19 team, the Aussie boys have been their favorite whipping bunch winning 9 matches on a trot. So their desperation is understandable, just look at how Sam Fanning was behaving on the field during the match. He might be carrying forward the glorious tradition of their 'Winning at all costs' mentality.

These clowns are set to be sanctioned by Cricket Australia..serves them right.. this has caused a stir in the social media... Now It has been brought to the attention of ICC & CA..

if half of this time they hd practiced to face India.. instead of taking a dig at the spoken english of indian players/fans ... They would hv fared better.. savng them from sulking nd facing sanctions by the their cricket board..

Now this has made the Indian colts victory against these muppets much more sweeter..

It's ok to have fans indulging in banters.. but it's not ok to have players (of any age group) representing a country resorting to such claptrap..

They are having fun at the age where most are around 18 years of age, around High school age. Nothing racist about it. Most high schoolers around the world love making fun of each other at that age. Some are even bullies.   Its all fun and games.  No need to feel offended every time.

The good old saying is. really true "The more you feel teased or offended by something, the more people will continue to tease you."

Just laugh it out sometimes.

Hard disagree. Ignoring racism is whats causing a rise of racism in the modern world

As for high schoolers bullying others, do you have any idea how many youngsters commit suicide, how many leave school, how many have PTSD and how many live a miserable life because of bullying? Bullying based on race, or how they talk, etc? And people like you, who advocate ignoring the bullying and slightly even encouraging them as part of growing up, are responsible for that misery

Bullies and racists have always been kept in check by being called out and facing the consequences. Ignoring it means they will only be more racist and bullies as they grow in life and learn no lessons. Racism was reduced a lot after US had an all out civil war and racists were seen as villains. Now we are back to encouraging racism and looking the other way?

Bullshit. Tolerance of intolerance is actively encouraging that intolerance. As Indians we are taught that we should look the other way and always accept it, particularly when we are in other countries. This harbors an inferiority complex and we feel it's ok for us to be the butt of jokes

Not to mention how many much younger kids look up to these U19 players as role models and follow them on social media. If they are not called out, that generation will grow thinking racist behavior is ok

CA's statement on this

"We are extremely disappointed that some of the Australia under-19 squad members have used inappropriate language in posts on social media, which we reported to the ICC as soon as it came to our attention," Carroll said.

"I have spoken to the players this morning and have expressed in no uncertain terms that such language has no place in society and falls well short of the standards we expect as Australian cricketers. The players have apologised for the language and taken down the posts.

"Cricket Australia will consider sanctions upon their return from South Africa, which will include but not be limited to education and cultural sensitivity training. Most of the players do not have their parents present with them in South Africa and some of them are minors. Accordingly, we believe it is appropriate to consider their sanction upon their return home."

Nip it in the bud, apologize on behalf of their buffoon teens and make sure they monitor this going forward - the least that they can do in this case.

The more I read about this over the past couple of days, the more it was pi$$ing me off.  IF it was just a "teenager" thing, why are our boys also not crapping on social media?  It is more than "fun."  At the very least, it is further evidence of a culture of arrogance and over-the-top gamesmanship that permeates Australian cricket.

In the end:  Scoreboard wins and that is where India's young men are shining!

You nailed it...We need to publish research in native languages, embark on massive translation project like chinese have done.
