Yuvraj Singh tells India to show patience with Shivam Dube in all-rounder's role

An all-rounder who can do the job with both bat and ball is a massive asset to have for any limited-overs outfit and Ben Stokes’ 2019 World Cup heroics for England are testament to the value of multi-faceted cricketers.

India had a man of similar calibre in their ranks for the 2011 World Cup title win, with Yuvraj Singh putting in a superb all-round display on his way to clinching the man-of-the-tournament award.

The left-hander registered a ton and four fifties while also claiming 15 wickets with his orthodox spin to star in the tournament held in India’s home soil. The Men in Blue have sorely missed the team balance provided by Yuvraj in subsequent World Cup editions of 2015 and 2019, particularly in the former.

Hardik Pandya has been handed the all-rounder’s mantle by India in the past couple of years but the 26-year-old is currently attempting to return from a severe back injury. His injury setback has forced India to try out Shivam Dube in the all-rounder’s role, though the Mumbai man has been making headlines for the wrong reasons of late.

After some promising initial displays, Dube was on the receiving end of serious punishment in the recently concluded T20I series between New Zealand and India. The right-armed medium pacer was carted for 34 runs in a single over by Tim Seifert and Ross Taylor in the fifth and final T20I in Mount Maunganui.

It is the second most expensive over in the format’s history, and lies just behind the 36 runs slammed by Yuvraj in a single Stuart Broad over in the 2007 World T20.

Yuvraj, however, believes India need to be patient with Dube and is maintaining a cautious outlook on Pandya’s impending return.

“Shivam Dube I think is a good talent, but you have to give him time,” the former India man told Sport360 on the sidelines of the Expo 2020 Dubai cricket final.

“Hardik is coming back from a back injury, and bowling fast after a back injury is going to be tough. So I don’t know how Hardik will turn out.

“Looking at Dube, you have to give the guy a bit of time and we will see in the future who comes out with the consistent performances.”

Wrong, You show patience with players with talent which has been spotted since their early years.Ben Stokes was a star from Under19s , so was Yuvraj himself.

Hardik, Dubey, or Shankar are no such talents. They have not even played more 20 FC matches.Even Bumrah played so many FC matches,Like Stuart Binny these players are just benefitting from lack of lower order depth. They are 26 years or older.

Hardik might be the best of the lot but he still is a bits and pieces player.

Didnt u spot talent in dube , tere talent ka defination roz kyun badalta hai . Kohli wali beemari ....aaj ye acha kal wo

Look at our talent spotter who claimed Rahul had no talent once said Dubey bowls heavy ball like kallis

We need a leftie who can hit the ball a mile and bowl few overs, this lad would be ideal at no6. Has any IPL team selected him. What are Mumbai Indians doing overlooking local talent.

I agree this guy looks better than both Pandya bros, and as a bowler looks like bowling heavy ball like Kallis. To be fair we need to see him facing international bowlers.

If they did not show patience with Rahul, would they have allowed him to stink in test cricket for two years. How much more patience do you need. They made Pant WK in shorter formats since world cup .They are doing just fine stop whinging.

Tere ko  bimari ye hai, tere ko har player Bradman dikta hai. Nobody can help that. Not every player needs the same long rope.Talented player get more chances, it is simple truth followed everywhere.

Wait let me remind u he was 1st dropped wrongly and then given a place back for a failure like dhawan

after that england series came where everyone failed and he scored in last test so he earned more test. He got extenstion for 2 more reason one was vijay n dhawan failure and his last 2 years were excellent

If they were fair to rahul he wont have been on bench in t20 where he never lost form for a failure like dhawan. (another foolish thing that u have justified)

If they were fair to rahul he wud have played in middle long ago , but twice was dropped after 1-2 games(now all of sudden he is in middle again)

U call that fair

You don't get deserve chances in all formats. Rahul flopped in India too and again in Australia before they finally dropped him. Only to get him back next test in Sydney where he predictable flopped again. That is called giving too many chances .

Stop your nonsense Yuvraj played 40 tests  in decade where he was in and out of test team because they were better players than him to play test cricket. There was no conspiracy theory then nor there is any injustice being done to these players.Laxman played less than 100 odis for same reason.

No player is guranteed to be given chances in all formats.

Yes, I did , I like him still to be given chances. There is nothing wrong in a young player going back to domestic cricket to earn his stripes again.

Dubey, Shankar  or whoever it is have tasted international cricket. They will become better players if they work on their game. All rounders are always in demand.

BTW I still feel Pant should be the wicket keeper for first test in NZ.He did not do anything to lose his spot to Saha you don't kick a only Indian wicket keeper who scored 100s in Eng and Australia out of the team for Saha.

yea so 4 games after that 100 thats not to much , neways rightly dropped.

Argument is when he was in form then why was he dropped.

He was our best batsman in Aus series at home then he came back he was dropped, so did kohli dream that in next year he ll loose form

Dropping someone in Other format which isnt played with same ball is right??? He was performing in t20 and was never give fair chance in ODI

Neither dropping someone once rightly is justification of someone dropping wrongly 10 times

M talking about ODI cricket ...he was never dropped and he was highly inconsistent.

Also in test there was no place. Rahul was unfairly dropped in odi when jokers like rayudu dk were given free chances

A player shud be guaranteed a spot in format he performs . He shudnt be dropped due to poor form in other format or picked due to good form in other format if he lacks skill

No it does not work like that, a player performs well in the format he is choosen and there by earning  his place in other formats.Yuvraj Singh performed well in odis earned himself place in test team full of batting talent but could not perform on par with Laxman his main competitor. So was in and out of the test team for decade.

Yuvraj too can say he got a raw deal he was made to open in test cricket but that was not due to any captaincy mistake. They wanted to fit him into the team and they could not kick Laxman out.Yuvraj got in test team full time after Ganguly's retirement but could not even score a hundred. While remaining a very good odi player and won world cup.

Rahul has succeeded under Kohli and is now T20i star and a improving ODI batsmen.  Iyer is already solving the long pending No4 issue in ODI by playing match finishing knocks. Pant had a dream test series in Australia. All of these 3 have blossomed under Kohli in atkeast one if not two formats. So let's not blame Dubey's under par skills as of now on Kohli. Other players have succeeded under him.

Rahul succeed becoz he had talent, he shud have done in 2017 when he was in top form but constantly chopped n changed

Iyer again shud have been continuted long back when he was dropped after Sa.

Pant hasnt even blossomed

A captain deserves credit when he backes them to hill not dropping them repeatedly. They are good player who will find success se day.

Hain ???

Are u seriously saying if a player is not doing well in test he shud be dropped from odi n t20 where he is doing well ???

In that case also why didnt dhawan n rohit face axe in odi since they were bad in tets

No one is questioning even yuvi in out. The example i gave is of odi where he was backed non stop despite being inconsisteny for 5 yrs

Yuvraj cant say he got raw deal coz he was found out in test cricket.

No one bought yuvraj singh test cricket xample why are u bringing it. It has no relevance

Bumrah also succeded coz of his own skill. He was already set under dhoni n never performed badly that his position came under scrutiny

A captain role comes when a player is under bad time.

This the reason player always held dhoni n ganguly in high regards and under kohli there has been always. Talk of insecurity
