Favorite Indian Test Bowlers

Like the test batsmen list, there are many but limiting the list to 3 (in the order of debut):

 

• Chandra. Never seen him bowl but as someone who can also visualize the game through numbers, I am impressed. Instrumental in winning Ind test series in WI and Eng in the 70s. Can be classified as a mystery bowler, a category that I love. Having watched Indian spinners came up a cropper overseas since the 90s (and praying for a Warne and Murali to show up), it is refreshing to find someone like Chandra in the huge pile of our effective at home spinners. Honorable mention to Gupte as well. 
• Srinath. Having watched in boredom the likes of Raju and Joshi create havoc on Indian pitches, it was refreshing to see Srinath's spell in 1996 vs. SA at A'bad. Along with SA, I was blown away. It is hard to describe the emotions of watching an Indian Express Pace Bowler (yes, Indian Express Pace bowler) in full flow for the first time (that too when you are used to relying on the mercy of Raju, Joshi and pitches in the 90s). From what I recall, Mark Taylor had rated Srinath the fastest bowler that he had faced. A legend of the game.
• Bumrah. An exceptional talent. Could become the best pace bowler ever from the subcontinent if he continues his good work.

Will use this thread to list ARs and WKs as well (in the order of debut):

 

ARs (there are not too many so will list all)

• Vinoo Mankad. A match winner who made Ind competitive. Career highlights include 231 vs. NZ and 184 vs. Eng in Eng, and 8/52 vs Pak and 8/55 vs Eng
• Kapil Dev
• Ravindra Jadeja 
• Sir Hardik Pandya 

 

3 Wicket Keepers:

• Dhoni. A phenomenal AR cricketer 
• Saha. One of the best with the gloves
• Pant. The best batsman to be behind the stumps. Already has 2 100s in SENA

Re part I bolded: that would be Dravid, since he did, at some point in his career, end up behind the stumps (although he never did so in tests). But I suspect there exists a sufficiently fine-tuned set of criteria to include Pant objectively. Of course, the list is subjective from the start anyway, so ... as you were ;-)

Ishant is day by day becoming an atg for india at least, if he manage 350 400 wickets (tough) , he may well be. I have not seen kapil play. By records, he was our greatest pacer.

1. Kapil dev, - our greatest all conditional pace bowler . Given the conditions he played in he was a 26.25-26.9  average level bowler for me

2. Bedi ,Chandra, Srinath,Ashwin, Kumble,Jadeja  all  of these are candidates  for 2 & 3 spots

Shami, Bumrah, Ishant all 3. Have always been a backer of Lambu in red ball cricket, badly mismanaged by TM in his young days. 

 

In Ind conditions I like Jaddu even though his style may appear boring, very tough to do what he does so consistently. McGrath like but a spinner...I enjoy his relentless accuracy/precision and playing with angles to RHBs...very subtle. Obviously there is Ashwin and his crazy box of skills, peak artistry and when he is in rhythm hardly a better sight in cricket, kinda like Anderson.  

 

Liked Zak in the 2007-10 period, Kumble in the mid-2000s. 

 

Believer in Srinath/Kumble in late 90s (98-) even though I didn't understand cricket much , just thought that they were the bowling equivalents of Sachin the batsman. Moreover I hated the art of bowling till the 2004 Indo-Pak series and emergence of Pathan/Balaji as an exciting opening duo.
