Is Misbah ul haq's innings in the 2011 world cup semi final the most suspicious innings ever?

We hear a lot about manoj prabhakar, hansie cronje, shane warne, dhoni...but the weirdest innings i have ever seen, and the one i'm most likely to consider an example of 'match fixing' has to be misbah ul haq in the 2011 semi final.

 

What's strange, is that misbah is seen as a 'non-corrupt' figure in pakistani cricket. The 'logician', the intelligent reader of the game. The 'quaid'. And whatever else...

 

So what exactly was the thinking behind that innings? What was a potentially do-able chase, singlehandedly turned into a guaranteed defeat. His innings made no sense back then, and makes even less sense now. And he could have stayed not out until the end, if he hadn't been caught trying to hit a six when pakistan need about 300 runs off the last ball.

nope it was lack of ability, he was only good at hitting spinners and his game was always like that. 

Many tried to emulate dhoni style but it didnt work for them, at its dip even dhoni's style didnt work for dhoni himself

I do remember Ramiz Raja commenting that Misbah's batting approach seems very strange and questioning what Misbah was trying to do. He blocked and blocked, and when it was clear the chase was pretty much dead, he pulled off a couple of desperate shots and then got out. Maybe he planned on staying till the end like he did in the 2007 T20 final but failed spectacularly.

PAK needed 84 off the last 10 overs. 84 off 60 is not impossible, and definitely not 'dead'.

 

Misbah's strike rate barely saw an increase from the 23 (45) at the end of the 40th over. He repeatedly took singles to put wahab riaz and the tailenders on strike. He didn't even attempt to hit boundaries until the 45th over.

 

He never took the powerplay around the early 40th, when the game was still alive and they had wickets in hand.

 

It was an incredibly suspicious innings.

To be honest even Younis Khan played a WTF innings in the match. 
 

Both Hafeez and Akmal had brain farts when they started well

 

Afridi’s blind hoicks in that situation would normally be seen with suspicion had he not built an empire on blind swishing.

 

Pakistan dropped 5 catches and they are still hung up on the DRS

 

All these under normal circumstances would look unusual if this was some other competent team. I don’t think even teams like Srilanka and current day Bangladesh make these elementary mistakes.

 

The reason is simple, Pakistanis were overwhelmed just like they are in most important games against India. In fact the only time they went in with 0 expectations and had no pressure CT 2017, they managed something with a below average side which even their greats couldn’t accomplish.

Pak was 184 for 7 in 41.5 overs when Afridi was out, needing 77 in 49 balls with just tailenders left. Misbah did a Dhoni there.

Prabhakar Mongia was by far the most absurd. It was long before the match fixing era, yet everyone watching realized that something was drastically amiss.

There's also a thing called aukaat, Misbah showed his that day. A very limited batsman, atrocious in ODIs...imagine having a SR of 74 in this era, and no 100 in 150+ tries. Even Rayudu is better.
