I think it's much more deep than Boys & Men for Kohli the captain. He is not willing to stick with someone he believes in & back him even in times of criticism & clamour for change. Guys like Ganguly, Dravid, Dhoni , when they backed players, they gave them enough chances to deliver eventually. It didn't matter if they were being criticized or castigated by media or fans. They just had a vision in their mind and they went about executing their vision.

Virat on the other hand is just too impulsive. After couple of good games, he will sing praises for a particular player, anoint him to a particular spot in the team. But suddenly after couple of failures & in light of clamour for change, he will bring someone else, rinse & repeat.

This guy must be a wonderful vice captain but an absolute disaster as a captain. He thinks captaincy is only about making bowling changes & showing agression on the field.

For Kohli, his media image matters more than the interests of the team. How his decisions impact the team or specific players does not even figure in his make believe world (where the complete spotlight is on himself and no one else). If for doing so he has to project a fake image of him being very cool off the field, so be it.

 

He's obviously the biggest global superstar of cricket but doubt if anyone of his team members he's captained will ever mention him for being a great leader. Like Dhoni's absence has not mattered much for the team, same will be the case with Kohli as well. The team will move only upwards the day Kohli gets sacked or quits captaincy on his own.

With the players in MI and the 200 support staff, I can be a non-playing captain and win all IPLs.  Rohit is good, but he makes mistakes as well - like any other captain. Only the armchair captains are perfect with the benefit of hindsight.. Kohli has changed the fitness culture in the team. He has backed Pandya and Jadeja and our fast bowlers. 

 

End of the day, with today's technology based deep analysis of all players and constant input of the coaches, captain does not really matter. It is not as if players need to be motivated to give their best in the age of endorsements and lucrative ad deals.

Plus, for us desis, who ever is not currently doing the job will do it better than the incumbent. Always.

captaincy is just not about that 

 

• its about team building 
• taking calls in pressure situations
• making players comfortable 
• Having a vision (hesson came in with good vision for RCB yet result didnt change coz captaincy is still same)
• Kohli hasnt backed pandya but pandya has no alternate 
• Kohli has messed players and team combination big time
