Australia docked WTC points, fined for slow over-rate

Australia have had salt rubbed into their wounds with a heavy fine and the loss of World Test Championship points landing in the wake of their Boxing Day Test defeat in Melbourne. 

Australia's players were fined 40 per cent of their match fee and lost four World Test Championship points for their slow over-rate against India in the second Vodafone Test at the MCG.

Tim Paine's side were already smarting after a comprehensive eight-wicket defeat in the Test that levelled the four-match series at 1-1.

ICC match referee David Boon – who celebrates his 60th birthday today – slapped the penalty on the Aussies after they were ruled to be two overs short of the target over-rate.

Sides are penalised 20 percent of their match fees and two World Test Championship points for every over they fail to bowl in the allotted time.

The penalty took Australia back to 322 points but they retained top spot on the World Test Championship table, ahead of India.

 

I love David Boon.. cool as a cucumber in midst of the harrassment which Langer bestowed upon him in the first t20 when India subbed Jadeja for Chahal.. now he has got back to them in style.. respect

Bhai you know why it's slow overrate? Because their pace bowlers were all gassed out. They tried to kill time by conserving them because they don't have the stamina hence the slow overrate.

I think yes it was Commies were talking about that in 1st test.  We got away with it though.  Maybe 36 Ao stole all the attention.  Either way every point matters to India at this moment.

This had me cracking up - and I could use the laugh, my nephew got suddenly hospitalized last night, and all is OK for now, but stressful all around.  

 

Boon was a terrific character in his playing days - with his pot belly, his 'stache, his batting stance, and his running between the wickets.  He's a legend in Aus for more than just his cricket.  And I love characters like him.

This gives more ammo to aussie fans about how they are cheated. I guess both teams over rates werent very good either in the last test. Also the unbelievable amount of DRS being used, players taking drinks, etc must be considered. The Aussie commentators were complaining about our over rates esp. Warne when Aussies were ridiculuosly slow becuase of their quicks getting gassed. Serves them right for all their whining. We had two spinners so our over rate was controlled. Jadeja finishes his overs in 2 mins Either way I'm happy not just because of the docking of points but also the whining from their fans. For a nation that tells everyone to not whine and accept things from authorities, they are the biggest whiners Their projection is something

IND was fined for slow overs in one of the ODI matches.  I don't think there was any controversy about slow overs in first test.
