Rohit Sharma is the greatest opener in cricketing history. Don't believe me? Search the stats for highest averaging test opener.

Everyone should move away and cater for him.

Given an option to select between Mayank and Vihari, I’d prefer Rohit replaces Mayank at least for this series. With Rohit opening, we won’t “miss” Mayank... and Gill gets to continue on his position atleast for this series...

Mayank/Rohit won't last long against the new ball. Why not one of them in MO and Vihari as opener? See, I know you don't rate Vihari but he can stay at the crease, his 15-25 type knocks will be more valuable at the top since he will require 20+ overs to score that. Idea should be to allow MO to play overs 30-80 when it is easiest to bat.

Whether he can play 15-25 knocks opening the innings, I’ve my doubts.

Talent show no matter in which position you are batting. For example Gill is opening and did well but as many are saying, he’s best fit for number 3. I’m sure he’ll do well at number 3 too.

Vihari, I’m sorry, is average... not exceptional. Maybe he’d played occasional good innings but mostly he’s average.
In this Indian team we don’t need average. newcomers. Those who’ve made their Mark in the team have always being much above average. I’m pretty sure if he carry’s on these 15-25 runs as a Batsman, he’ll soon be dumped for Pandya....

I was about to respond to @Gollum on his Vihari proposal when I realised you'd said pretty much said my piece as well.  An average talent won't do as well out of position, and I doubt Vihari is anything more.  In fact, forget opening, he will lose his place soon enough if he continues in this vein.

The problem with Vihari is he has looked timid and out of place. But let us not act as if Rohit is some sort of saviour. He will flop as usual if ball moves a millimeter.Mayank has not helped himself, he is getting flat out beat by pace which is big negative for an opener. He is suffering from same thing as Rahul, in effort to make himself a better t20 player he has lost his basic technique which is a must for test cricket.

Rahul needs to be involved too.
