Real McCoy Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 This is an article from last year in NZ. Compare what he says to what he has been blabbering for the past week. Here he says Quote ‘Each fielder has to be his own captain’ “We keep reminding the players about attention to basic detail...In a T20 game, each fielder has to be his own captain. He need not wait for the captain to move him or the bowler to move him in a certain direction or to a certain position,” he said. “We try and tell them to think ahead of the game, you as a fielder captain yourself, see which way the breeze is, which way the batsman’s tendencies to hit are, what’s the bowler’s plan and position accordingly. “So we empower the fielders so that they can become their own captain and they can take decisions on their own because the captain has got too much on his plate at certain times. That’s what we speak about,” he added. Source: https://www.thehindu.com/sport/cricket/india-tour-of-new-zealand-new-zealand-vs-india-second-odi-in-auckland/article30761095.ece What? Every player needs to be their own captain and move to a fielding spot without consulting captain or the bowler . I thought the captain or the bowler is supposed to set fields. Just tell me if I'm reading this right. Maybe I'm not aware of the intricacies involved in a cricket game or maybe just maybe Sridhar is full of sh1t. So basically what he is saying is absolving the coaches and the captain of any responsibility of a bad fielding performance. The tendency of a batsman, bowler's plan, and the adjustments to the breeze is what a fielding coach should do. Its not the fielder's problem. Say some new guy like Shaw comes in and drops a catch because of swirling conditions. its the job of sridhar who should be on the line. This is not empowering. This is passing the buck to the fielder. No wonder we dropped so many catches in adeliade. Its not any wonder that players like jadeja and newcomers like Gill and Sundar hung on to the catches while Mayank and Shaw struggled. Mayank was a decent fielder in the last tour. Gill and Sundar have played in the IPL and have trained with the help of foreign coaches. Whats the point of Sridhar in the team then. This shows that sridar is just another drinking buddy showing up in Ashwin's video cracking a few jokes and making him and Shastri some sort of a genius.
Vk1 Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 always wondered on what basis this guy was made the fielding coach. IPL teams wouldn't let him anywhere near their squad in any capacity.

Sandeep99 Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 The most useless person and useless coach award goes to...... Sridhar, I know you are in this forum and read all posts. Please, for god's sake, leave Indian team. We fans are fed up of all the slip catches that we drop. Also, please ask your boyfriend lolli to stand at third man instead of slips. coffee_rules, Turning_track and Vk1 3

chewy Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 Dunno about downward spiral But some of the fielding in SMAT has been club cricket level Players dropping dollies, keepers cant catch/stop slight reflections, and worst is third man position, letting boundaries through due to lack of ground fielding technique Appaling BacktoCricaddict 1

I watched quite a few highlights and the lack of fielding skill/effort was obvious. Now I actually pity Sridhar and the IPL fielding coaches for having to coach these guys up who seem to have very little intention of fielding well. And the bad ground excuse is not valid; SMA knockouts are in Motera - a really nice ground.
