They’re getting out to straight balls because they are expecting the ball to turn a lot. Don’t get me wrong. The batting has also been poor. Michael Vaughan pointed this out yesterday. The batsmen have been playing for the spin but what you need to do is play for the straight ball and simply accept that the balls that do turn will beat your bat. But that’s fine because the turn when it happens is such that it will most likely just miss the edge of the bat no harm done. Decent spin batting would have made this a 200-250 run pitch. The batting hasn’t been decent that’s why neither team has made 150 yet.
