Or his career stats. He is a bonafide superstar allrounder in test cricket. Ravi Ashwin can retire today and be in the conversation for best offspinner ever to play test cricket. If you don't think these 2 are "elite" then that's your problem. Ishant's stats over the last 4 years are all-world. If Ishant, Bumrah and Shami play decent amount of cricket for a couple of more years, their stats will reflect how "elite" they are. And the ceiling on the likes of Rishabh, Washington, Gill/Shaw is quite high. I would say that 2 out of these 4 are going to dominate world cricket for a decade. You need to reset your outlook. You are talking to a Kohli cheerleader. For them, Indian cricket begins and ends at Kohli. Everyone else is dispensable. Ever since the Aus series, which exposed hollowness of Kohli's leadership, they have sunk to even lower depths. Someday calling Gill as useless, some other day targetting Sundar or Siraj. Rahane and Pujara obviously remain their no. 1 targets Vijy 1

BacktoCricaddict Posted March 7, 2021 Posted March 7, 2021 (edited) India wins inaugural WTC regular season test championship. As a fan of big-time college athletics in the US, I compare it to a regular season "conference championship," which is an actual award that is recognized by the governing boards. It rewards the most consistently good team over the entire season, regardless of the result of the playoffs that follow the regular season (often the regular season winner does not win the playoff championship, because another team might get hot at just the right time). Over the first 3-year WTC season, India has proven to be the most consistent and dominant team. But for a single series blip against the Kiwis, it has been a clinical march towards the top. Anything can happen in the 1-off match that is the WTC final and, while that is extremely important, this team must be unconditionally lauded for its 3-year run of success. Whether it is due to, or in spite of, the coaching and captaincy is for each one to decide, but the spirit and heart shown by this team as it made this march is undeniable. I was refuting the point that this team can match the GOAT teams, if i was 'cheerleading' for Kohli, i would have agreed to the point raised by putrevus. Secondly ask any neutral fan in this whole damn world, even imagining that this team can match Aussies of the 2000s is absolute madness. LOL That team had a fear factor a daunting presence , i would love it if India some day match them, but currently with this set of cricketers India won't come anywhere near them. I will consider this team an ATG team if they manage to win finals or draw the series in england but GOAT is just too far fetched. Imagine aus of 2000s facing nz in a test final at lords, lol. Not a single soul in this world would have placed nz as favourites but in case of India even Indian fans are calling nz as favourites. This explains the huge difference between the two teams.

Have a look at wi 80s and aus 2000 even Sa 2010s they were filled with god gifted cricketers, talent and ability all around. This team has three elite cricketers: 1.Kohli 2.Bumrah 3.Pant Now compare this to aus Hayden Ponting Gilchrist Mcgrath Waugh Warne Martyn(definitely pure talent) Clarke This is basically a team of limited ability getting the best out of what they have. See when you get to 145, it means you have won most of the away series too. To win away series you need serious talent also. getting to 145 is no mean feat and if this Indian team does that then it should be regarded as one of the best teams.
