zen Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 (edited) As a part of WC preparation (both formats), Pant and SDP (Hardik) should be made to bat at 4-5 (if not higher) to leverage on the middle overs (and spinners) ... Once given the role, they should be allowed to ease into it without pressure (the goal is to win the WC not a bilateral game which no one is even going to remember in a few weeks) ... And when these guys play with pressure off, the bowlers would be put to the sword w/o even having to try to hit even yorkers for 6s (they can pick and chose) ... Also imagine if these guys have played 50 or so balls heading into the death overs ... The potential is immense! Edited March 26, 2021 by zen tweaker 1
Global.Baba Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 After seeing the way Stokes batted today may be SDP should be promoted to 3. He is not bowling and it is pointless wasting him for 30 run cameos at best.
zen Posted March 26, 2021 Author Posted March 26, 2021 There is a huge difference b/w sides like Eng and Ind when it comes to power hitting ... Only guys like Pant and SDP can make Ind competitive but they are made to bat at positions where it is difficult for them to make a difference on a consistent basis as a) they have too much to do b) they have relatively less time c) they face specialist death over bowling, while those up the order take singles off perfectly hittable balls
Majestic Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 They are batting at fine position. If we bat them higher then the guys in top 4 will become useless as they will bat at 6. The only solution is that top 4 don't bat selfishly. When you are playing Krunal at 7 and Shardul at 8 and Pandya as specialist bat at 6, then why this slow batting from top order. In Australia, we lost 4 wickets at 120 and from there Pandya and Jadeja took us to 300. So, if now we are just 1 or 2 down at 120, we must be expecting higher than 320-330 and even 350.

(if not at #3) can come in at #6 too, which may encourage Pant-SDP to play even more freely knowing that someone like SKY is still in the hut Edited March 26, 2021 by zen

They can shift gears according to situation. We don’t need all 4 of Rohit, Virat, Dhawan and Rahul but we definitely need 2/4 and it’s a no brainer Ro and Ko will be those 2 unless people have an agenda or don’t get cricket. As I said there is no modern or conventional cricket, there is may be an enhanced skill level and strategies due to fitness standards and technologies but as we saw in the 1984 Aus vs WI cricket video I posted, good quality cricketers will win you any match and that hasn’t changed about cricket. Thats why we need a Shaw type batsman to open alongside Rohit. Rohit Shaw Kohli Pant Rahul Pandya Global.Baba 1

There is a caveat i.e. good quality cricketers who adjust their game with time or drive innovation like WI did ... if you are stuck with old methods, the quality is immaterial

Stokes is better utilized up then below which even hardik wud be , but diff is hardik is still very good at low spot but stokes isnt that comfortable as the likes of pollard, russell, pandya's are . Its like yuvi n dhoni case was, Yuvi worked best above which even dhoni did but dhoni did well even in lower middle order which not many can do
Vijy Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 We should open with Pant IMO. He's got the power game and the range and the ability to play big innings (see his Ranji record where he's scored 100+ scores at 100+ SR). My lineup would be: (1) Pant, (2) Shaw, (3) Kohli, (4) KLR, (5) SKY, (6) Hardik, (7) Krunal/Sundar, (8) Jaddu/Gowtham, (9) Bhuvi --> only 1 anchor in top 8 and the rest can score at 100+ SR.

I told you this before there isn’t anything called a specialist no.7 slog over hitter. Pollard can bowl, Russell will bowl if he plays, Maxwell has improved his bowling a lot, Stokes can bowl a few and even if he doesn’t can bat in top3. This isn’t a criticism of Pandya. Clearly he has improved his bowling by a lot based on what I saw in T20. However if he plays, he has to bowl. It is stupid saving his bowling. Is he a mystery spinner? What if he has a bad day when eventually he is asked to bowl in a critical game? I don’t get this protecting a player. If the player is half-fit he shouldn’t be selected.
zen Posted March 27, 2021 Author Posted March 27, 2021 These two guys can murder bowlers in the MO ... Many times when SDP walks in after early wkts and has time to settle in, he gets a big score (Aus series, CT final). Ind should definitely try to leverage on that to post huge totals rather than using him to compensate for slow batting early on

Well his fitness isnt allowing and TM is careful about it since they dnt wanna loose him Quote I told you this before there isn’t anything called a specialist no.7 slog over hitter. slog hitter is a wrong word. There is a power hitter and a range hitter, and yes its a specialist job which top order batsman like shaw, gill, kohli, rohit cant do . Quote Pollard can bowl, Russell will bowl if he plays, Maxwell has improved his bowling a lot, Stokes can bowl a few and even if he doesn’t can bat in top3. pollard also didnt bowl for many years, Russell is basically limping through leagues, Maxi bowls spin so fitness doenst become a major issue Quote This isn’t a criticism of Pandya. He will bowl sooner, its just they are careful with. YEa but him not bowling has ruined the balance which if he doesnt play is still ruined. He isnt half fit but bowling at his speed which quite decent isnt easy specially after back surgery, just being careful for a while. Edited March 27, 2021 by Ankit_sharma03
Vickydev Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 Pant at 4 and Rahul at 5. Pandya as floater based on situations. A concious effort must be made such that Rahul doesnt have to bat in the middle overs. Even promote Pandya over him. Rahul is best when he has fewest deliveries to face and can tee off from the word go.
zen Posted March 28, 2021 Author Posted March 28, 2021 Excellent Pant-SDP p’ship ... potential to be Ind’s most destructive ever ... can take the bull by its horn
