Is there evidence to prove that this "natural" evolution cannot be hastened in a lab?

So far, I am also not aware of any engineering that can be done to hasten its evolution. As a scientist, I cannot rule out the possibility - no one can prove a negative like: "it cannot be hastened." But the burden of proof is on someone who claims it can be hastened to show that it is so. My mantra: More replication --> More mutations --> More variants --> More VOCs. It's just a numbers game. This seems to go against the usual. In the long-term, yes. There are a number of concepts at play here. First, evolution is not linear and does not follow a singular path. Mutations result in all sorts of variations. Second, of those variations, the one that spreads the most will be the long-term winner. That is because a more deadly ones keeps killing and running out of hosts to spread to. We are still early in the game here. The delta variant is only 8 months old (first discovered in MH in Nov). After it has run its course, the more transmissible but milder variants will take over and become our jeevansaathi in the long term (like the cold viruses). China deleted the first samples that are uploaded. It only means they really want to hide it. Lab leak can be ruled out now. Circumstantial evidence is tough to ignore now.
