Several strong Marathi players, Pune/Nashik are pretty strong centres. Up North you have Delhi. 

 

Anyway Mishra is an American product, brought up in their culture/ecosystem, under American coaches. In India we don't have much of a chess culture in several states, that's the problem.

Moreover this kid had other trainers, like Berkeley's Sam Shankland, Michael Khodarkovsky and was part of Kasparov Chess Foundation which is USA based.

 

 

As far as I am concerned this kid is a threat to my Indian guys, wish him well but not against Pragg, Nihal, Gukesh, Raunak, Aryan, Leon etc

For you and ppl born in India, Janma bhoomi is India.
But for the next generation, even the janna bhoomi is also abroad and not India. Could not verify but looks like Abhimanyu is born in USA. So, a (Hindu) American with his heritage from India is an apt description. Our Government gives PIO cards for such people.

I was responding to his coach who is “NJ-based”. Anyway, it’s notable that a youngest GM record is breached. Of course, he will be a threat to other Indian GMs.

Right now India has 68 GMs. 

 

Russia, USA, Ukraine, Germany have more though USA, Germany benefitted a lot from Soviet breakup, many Soviet GMs settled in those 2 countries post USSR dissolution in early 90s. Also most of USA's top players now are recent poaches, Caruana (Italy), So (Philippines), Aronian (Armenia), Dominguez (Cuba) all switched federations because of generous offers by the US billionaire Rex Sinquefield. 

 

Truth be told India is only behind Russia and Ukraine when it comes to home produced GMs. By the mid of this decade I expect us to be #2, Russia will be tough to catch (chess is a religion there, basically what cricket is to India!!!!) but who knows what will happen 20-30 years down the road. 

 

From 0 GMs in 1987 to this. Many ICFers were alive when Bangladesh was ahead of us in chess!!!

 

Just like chess, in all spheres, apna time aayega. Vishwaguru loading

Mishra's father (handling the account) is a tool. Nepo is right, the way he got his norms is farcical, easiest path compared to other GMs....3/4 of our Indian kids could have broken the record if they had followed a similar strategy. His so called WR will always be frowned upon by other GMs. Kid is normal, his father is a bit crazy, typical Indian parent who wants to live his life through his child's success/records. Saw an interview of his, clear case of parent controlling the kid and deciding every aspect of his life....unhealthy toxic environment. Must learn from Henrik Carlsen who took a back seat. Don't want the tragic story of Gata Kamsky to repeat.

^^ can you explain more how different was his methods to get the title than others?

 

I heard that he is homeschooled and not having the rigors of going through normal childhood

^^ Regardless of anything, kudos to the kid.  To spend a childhood on a passion and put in countless hours - whether of your own accord or due to parental pressure - is very challenging.  Hopefully he goes on to have a great career and life.

His father's interview, apparently has spent 200k usd so far on Abhimanyu...the kid is sincere, mature enough to understand to not take the losses to heart. Father dedicated. Very eager also...
