Manu choked in her final shot, needed a 10, shot an 8, her worst shot since series 3.

Is this the only comp for Manu ?

Unreal choke at the end by Manu, a lone 8 in an ocean of 9s and 10s.

Shooting continues to disappoint.

Still has 25m pistol (her weaker suit) on 29th. And mixed 10m.

She was supposed to get a medal in this event as per predictions (ranked #2 in the world), failed to qualify to final.

Poor mental conditioning lets Team India down again. What will it take for concerned authorities to realize we have a problem?

You can have all the talent in the world, won't do jack in Olympics with choking habits. Or for that matter ICC tournaments.

LIVE COMMENTARY

  • Manu (Series 6): 575-14x [10, 10, 10, 9, 10, 10, 9, 9, 10, 8]
    Yashaswini (Series 6): [10, 10, 9, 10, 10, 9, 10, 9, 8, 10]

The pressure gets to Manu as she registers an 8 off the last shot. Even Yashaswini hits an 8 off her penultimate. I don't even know what to say...

Rio script repeating, at least we have mixed events to look forward to which we didn't back in 2016. Maybe can salvage some pride there.

Do feel these events like Shooting and Archery are too much hit or miss with lots of luck involved.

You need to have the best day of your life to get a medal in it.

Lofty expectations like 15 medals, 18 medals down the drain. Those data tech gurus only consider rankings and performance in events with much lower pressure. Can never take into account choking/clutch abilities of nations.

At least better London.

South Koreans in Archery justify their reputation almost every single time.

Even in shooting least we can expect is a spot in the finals, come on there are 60 shots over 75 minutes in qualification, quite a long process and enough chance for comebacks. Easier to fluke in shorter events....longer these things go, better the chances for top ranked players.

margin of error is too small here. I don't think we can club it with other sports and say clutch abilities of nation

WE have won less than 30 medals in 121 years. Unreal to expect that many medals.

Yeah it is surprising how consistently South Koreans do well in Archery.

We are good in other world level events but in Olympics our archers never do well, story of last so many years.

Which makes me feel that either it is too much luck or may be we are not just good enough. Can't choke so many times.

PV Sindhu is the most clutch sportsperson we have produced in this century. Doesn't do that well most of the year, then suddenly peaks in big events. People mock her by calling her Silver Sindhu but truth be told she almost always overperformed in those tournaments to fetch silver. She isn't the dominant player of her generation of even clear top three, but you always know that she must be beaten by a superior player in a big match.

In poor form coming to Tokyo, 50:50 against her probable R16 opponent, Mia Blichfeldt. Tougher QF (30:70 against local fav Yamaguchi), almost impossible task in SF against Tai Tzu should she reach there. But still gives more hope to us fans than the overhyped chokers.

Btw how come USA doesn't boss these shooting competitions, given their gun culture? They have the largest gun owning population and well trained military

Most successful shooting country in Olympics history, by a large margin.

Not that dominant now but generally a top 3 team. Anyway competitive shooting is a different game, USA may have more number of good shooters (than rest of the world combined probably) but countries like China, Russia, Germany have similar number of elite shooters.

Was hoping this would be a breakthrough event for us. Still a chance if we can get close to 10 medals (will happily take 9 bronze medals to add to Chanu's silver).

Even teams like China, Great Britain had their breakthrough Games which catapulted them to the next level.

She fluffed her last two arrows in qualifying. If she had even hit 9 she would have been 6th and would have faced the 3rd ranked in qrtrs who she has beaten before. Bad luck

Here is what I over the years have observed over years , target based sports top 20 more or less are on par in terms of skill level. It's who hangs on to their nerves. Let's see.

Manu didn't even qualify but that's fine she is a young girl and win us something in future
