Funny you should say that. In Indian traditional chess naming, queen is called minister.

 

Soldiers (pawn) , elephant (rook), horse (knight), camel (bishop), minister (queen) and Of course King . No women chars . Patriarchy :hitler:

yes I think Indian chess pawn moves only one step and other regions the pawn can move 2 steps at the start or Vice versa. That’s the only big difference I think. Names might obviously be different culture to culture

Hmm, which region are you from? Maybe North India had Islamic influence to name it that way. The reason these were named like this because these players are from an army, Indian armies used to have horses, camel, elephants, foot soldiers, king and minister is the most powerful as he designed strategies. Queens never had any role in wars.  Maybe in the west/colonial rule, queen was the head of the govt and king was just a ceremonial figure:dontknow:
