International cricket should be turned into a farm league for the IPL

There is a lot of difference in the quality of top teams vs associates but does it mean that every associate player is worse than the players from main teams? That doesn’t seem the case.

Let there be regular international cricket even among associates and scout the best to play in the IPL, give a % to the boards to motivate them to produce and scout talented cricketers.

Make international cricket a farm league for the IPL.

The quality bases on the qualifiers collectively is very poor.

Increase the IPL teams and divide them as major and minor leagues and may be gone opportunities for even the lesser players to improve.

I think there is enough domestic Indian and international quality across associates

collectively to have at least 14-16 teams (if Pak players are allowed some day when things get better even 16 IPL teams is easily possible)

However when you try to fit in 12-16 international teams the quality is piss poor.

time to convert international cricket to an IPL farm league.

The quality of the IPL itself is deteriorating, teams are having difficulty finding quality international cricketers and are dependent on curren, Christian, etc. And you want to break the league and add  new teams  which would most likely be minnows resulting in a bad viewing experience.

The best thing  ICC can do is force these associates to compete in the tri-nations cup against better teams.
Make them go on a tour and play A-side.

It already is.

There is a reason why even when the Windies cricket board was mistreating and abusing the Windies T20 stars, they still lined up and clamored to play under the West Indies banner for T20 WC.  Because they know that a good performance or 2 is worth millions of dollars.

Everybody knows that white ball series played in India is an open audition for IPL.  Given the huge amounts of money at play, the IPL Scouts are already scanning all up and coming talent all across the globe.  It doesn't take long for any young player who shines in CPL, Blast, BBL etc to quickly get snapped up.

Obviously the early years of IPL had a massive boner and confirmation bias for Australian players, coaches, etc but now that's slowly fading, and other test-playing countries are definitely getting a fair shot.  Especially players from ANUS and Windies.

There still is a bit of a negative (and unfair) bias against Zim, SL, and toyger players, but that's bound to disappear because the big money monster has no choice but to be meritocratic.

Who's putting up the roadblocks? Why aren't they playing international cricket against teams like the West Indies or Lanka or  Pakistan? I meant the tri-nations.

You need to increase your cricket knowledge outside India !! ...the ICC set a 5 year fixture plan

Here is a question for you why doesn't India A play Scotland when they tour England ?

Maybe because the Scotland cricket board hasn't been pro-active enough to make it happen? Does the Scotland cricket board have the wherewithal and facilities to host the India 'A' team? I'm sure the India 'A' coaches and players would happily play against Scotland.  There are a lot of moving parts to a cricket tour, even with an 'A' team, there is the question of reciprocity, costs, relationship between the board officials etc.

I'm sure if Scotland cricket gets its ducks in a row it can make it happen.  But hey, its easy to just whine and blame others instead of putting in the hard yards yourself.

What the hell is  " wherewithal" ?

You have no idea what you are speaking about . Not a clue about Associate Cricket

Because BCCI isn't interested, and your board isn't serious enough

You should be screaming with all your might to make it happen, but I don't see any seriousness.

Even Afghanistan's shaky board with lackluster management has managed to play a test match against India where is Scotland? It's much easier to  blame others than it is to put in the effort.

If I continue to write  it will break your heart. Leave it.

Can Scotland cricket pay for lodging, food of the India A touring squad and support staff? Do they have facilities available to host games?  Since you didn't like that word, here's another one for you - aukaat.   Do they have the aukaat to even attempt to reach out to BCCI and establish a working relationship without the ECB stomping on them?

I have enough of a 'clue' about associate cricket to have empathy for the players, none for the lazy, corrupt boards that more often than not, act as hindrances for the development of the sport.

My club was paying a Bombay cricket 30 core for 20 weeks  in 1989 when Bombay was paying him 100 rupees a day

21st century called - its not been 1989 for 32 years.   Days of Brits being able to take advantage of favorable exchange rates and attract Indian talent on the cheap, are history.  Indian money is funding Scotland Cricket's annual budget, and you can moan and bitch all you want, but that is just undeniable fact.

What would be the ballpark cost of hosting an India 'A' touring squad for 2 weeks - hotel etc?  This is a non-trivial cost for the budget of associate cricket boards.  Unless the Scotland Cricket board is lying in their annual reports.  Which is probably the case anyway.

Disagree here. Scotland, Ireland have a self sufficient system. They may not be rich in terms of BCCI level money but they have an adequate professional setup which is managed decently. Their players have been always professionals even when SC cricketers weren’t.

Now the economics of playing Scotland may not be viable for BCCI, that part of your point I do agree with on instinct even though don’t have any numbers to substantiate that.

Scotland has hosted test playing nations afaik..  They have a ICC approved stadium as well where they hosted England & beat them.

India last toured Ireland in 2018 for 2 T20Is after a long gap of almost 9 years I guess..

'A' tours don't run on economics for visitors, its about the hosts.  And what the hosts offer to the touring board in return.

I am fairly confident that BCCI coaches and players would be interested in the A team playing in the foreign conditions of Scotland as part of player development.  Question is how pro-active is the Scot board in working on setting that up.

They are massively dependent on the ECB in terms of player access to county cricket, among other things.
