Venkatesh Iyer bats at the top ... was a big hit in this IPL, played strokes all around with massive 6s and looked super confident .... and bowls medium fast from a high release point. Has good yorkers and a thinking brain.

But was not picked even though it was known that Hardik won't bowl and is totally out of form with the bat.

This is what I meant by choosing big names with general international cricket experience ... while ignoring current ability and form.

You could forgive if the IPL was played in say India a few months back.

VI was in form in UAE less than a couple of weeks back against quality bowlers in the IPL.

Its just dumb poor decision by the BCCI, he should have been an automatic decision esp over Pandya.

Fundamental difference between two teams was Pakistan came out with plans while bowling while India were rudderless both while batting & bowling.

India knew Pak will start with Imad, still kept sending right handers. While bowling, Loli's random bowling changes were for all to see.

Exactly as they say. Failing to Plan is planning to fail. Nothing but NO planning is to be blamed. I think 150 was defendable even with the same bowling lineup.

Our bowling stocks are better than you think.

And Pakistan's bowling looked special due to Shaheen Afridi, who is a very good bowler. As for the rest, they were really hungry for this win and bowled better than usual.

Choosing players based on current form and ability, for the format, is the key.

Shami has never been a dependable T20 bowler. And Bhuvi is woefully out of form and doesn't look fit.

A bowling attack of Bumrah, Siraj, Thakur, Avesh, Varun C, Jaddu and one among Chahal or R.Chahar ... would been a bowling attack picked based on current form and ability for the T20 format.

Our selection criteria though better from the 2019 WC selection leaves a lot to be desired. I don't see the boldness that we first saw in 2007. This team should have never had out of form players especially with the IPL being held for almost a month and giving a chance for us to see who is doing well.

Toss went wrong. It is impossible to defend any score with that amount of dew.

Yes we could have selected a better eleven, but personally I think it's a win toss win match ground.

Dew may have played a part. But nothing can justify a 10 wicket loss with 151 on the board. That is as good a knockout punch one can get.

1 - Shaheen afridi bowled the spell of his lifetime by getting the ball to move at high pace in UAE pitches early on.

2 - Haris Rauf bowled really good in middle overs - mixing slow balls effectively when pitch was of no help

3 - Shadab Khan wasn't scared to bowl slow in the air to Pant after getting hit for 4

4 - Afridi won battle against kohli when we came back for his final spell - that was a crucial point

5 - Rizwan was amazing with placement and running between wickets

6 - Babar Azam structured his innings to perfection by staying till end and knowing when to target bowlers, that drive on shami early on and those pull shots on bumrah were class

These are the reasons why India lost
