maniac Posted November 18, 2021 Posted November 18, 2021 We almost bungled a simple chase and even the last over runs were not convincing. As I said multiple times tuk tuk or blistering starts won’t make a difference is the middle order is fragile. I can confidently say in hindsight that we could have lost a match to a big team even while chasing in WT20.
rkt.india Posted November 18, 2021 Posted November 18, 2021 But we won yesterday and NZ is a big team. We lost to them in WC. There was not much dew yesterday.
sandeep Posted November 18, 2021 Posted November 18, 2021 T20 is a game of small margins and making such prognostications is a fool's errand. Even in the Pakistan game - if Rishabh Pant had not gotten out when he did, and stuck around for another 3-4 overs, the game would have been very different. You can "confidently" say anything, doesn't mean it makes sense. Just like you asserted that Venkatesh Iyer had a "brainfart" in yesterdays' game.

Just like you asserted that Venkatesh Iyer had a "brainfart" in yesterdays' game. Let me address this right now before you kind of repeat this every other time to show that you are some cricket savant. Firstly I take back the brain fart word because on second look he did try to take advantage of the close in field. Having said that it was still a case of overthinking and bad judgement. Guys like Pollard, Russell or even your very own favorite SDP, their best bet is to go straight. They should be banned from playing cheeky shots or scoops like Jadhav or even Matty Wade. Iyer has power down the ground and just hit a million $ shot, why would you not back yourself to clear the ground and that too against a trundler like Mitchell ? It may not be a brain fart but clearly he was overthinking and got carried away by the occasion which even though is not a brain fart is an equally valid observation. I have given him the b-o-d and mentioned that too so not sure why you keep harping on that. Edited November 18, 2021 by maniac sandeep and nitinbwj 1 1

sandeep Posted November 18, 2021 Posted November 18, 2021 (edited) btw, if you are going to throw around "analysis", and that too "confidently", be prepared to defend it. Or take it back. Don't get your chaddis all twisted because someone else expresses a differing opinion. And you might want to look into learning how to gracefully accept when you're wrong, or you misspoke. Its simple, and no big deal. Lot of times folks will say or write stuff that's not fully articulated. And all are well within rights to withdraw a half-formed, or incorrectly formed thought. But you should do that with honesty. Instead of retroactive edits, or lota style "I take it back, but i don't really". When you do that, its intellectually dishonest, and will annoy others who are looking for genuine meaningful discussion. Edited November 18, 2021 by sandeep

ShoonyaSifar Posted November 18, 2021 Posted November 18, 2021 We bungled up the chase? Really? The match was done and dusted by the 15th-16th over. We were ALWAYS in control, won easily with two balls to spare sans any last ball drama. The slightly old ball started sticking into the pitch post the 15th over (happened in NZ innings too), that only delayed our win but there was no 'bungling' unless you and I were watching different matches or have different meanings for the word.
cricketfan28 Posted November 18, 2021 Posted November 18, 2021 Boys took it deep yesterday .. they probably wanted to spend some time .. I don't think they panicked.
Vildoc Posted November 18, 2021 Posted November 18, 2021 One of the biggest worry is the lack of power hitting. Case in point is KL Rahul. He is not able to clear boundaries and gets caught well within. Like the first T20 with New Zealand and like wise in the WT20 in Dubai. Does the batting coach look at these things?
coffee_rules Posted November 18, 2021 Posted November 18, 2021 India is not a well-oiled machine. They always start late. Having two high profile matches starting up and the last tosses was detrimental to their progress.,
