How long can you persist with such an ageing line-up that will get even older when Kohli returns and Iyer is dropped? Where is the vision and building for the future?

Rahane 33

Iyer 27 next month

Jadeja 33 next month

Patel soon to be 28

Era of youngsters in test cricket has gone. Youngsters debuting early and playing 15 years of test cricket won't happen a lot now. Teams will play safe in the time of WTC and will keep experienced seniors and there will be more FC veteran debutants.  Youngsters will be dropped if fails for experienced players.

I think in the professional era you can maintain your fitness of longer period of time if you take care of yourself.

 

A lot of players are one format specialist. This makes it easier to prolong your career.

 

 

I think 25 to 27 is a good age to debut. 4 to 5 solid years of india A ranji etc. 

 

Prithvi shaw should be a precautionary tale. I thought he made his debut too early.

Shreyas Iyer is the perfect example,

Playing 38 year old Saha is a huge example of reluctance to trust the new blood. While Dhoni retired from test at 35.
