India appear to be dangerously undercooked for the SA series.

All depends on the batting combo selected

rahul

agrwal

kohli

pujara

Vihari / Ayer / rahane

pant

ashwin

thakur

siraj

bumrah

Shami

think given recent improvements in Shami and bumrah batting , I feel we will do well .

Rahane is my mystery here . South Africa is where he and his mentor thrived the most ( amre ) .

pant ashwin and thakur are the key to any victory .

even with a whitewash and even if he fails as a batsman, he will not be booted from captaincy soon unless he pisses off BCCI further (which is possible).

You dont know gangulys ego, he is 100% pissed at kohli and looking for any excuse

Already there are 18 + 4 = 22 players in the squad.

So, 11 vs 11 is still possible.

I just wanted 2 extra quick bowlers in Prasidh and Umran.

Not much difference between 22 and 24 players.

Actually in our local team, we do same every year with a difference. We pack one side with batting heavy and top order. Other team we pack all our frontline bowlers. Batting heavy team allways wins as its with rule that you got to get out twice but one cannot imagine how close the games become.

more than weather, the real question: how is Omicron? if one person on either side gets it, this strain is likely to spread thru the rest like wildfire.

If India loses first Test and  we see some omicron cases in the camp will they quit the tour?  Such scenario is not really outlandish.

it is quite feasible regardless of whether 1st test or not.

Practice matches are overrated, they need to be in touring country couple of weeks before any tour and have inter squad games as preperation. It is far better than any useless practice games where teams are not even willing to give comparable pitches and competitive squads.

Play the A team that tours. Too bad our first 11 under rat are scared to get wrecked by A players.

Tbf last time in Australia, they gave us decent practice vs some club team. Was on a pancake though.

You have a very valid point playing A tour players would be nice way to practice. But seriously where do you get this nonsense Kohli is scared to play A players.
