They are bound to be scoring less runs than 2010 teams .Those teams were playing with 6 batsmen .

258/4 to 320 all out is normal for this team. Bowlers cannot bat on this team lately they have been doing better. They are not playing on flat wickets either. They have played on minefields at home and green mambas in other places.

This was a reasonable pitch to bat on day 1. Olivier was bowling friendly bouncers. Olivier should have taken 0 wickets with the kind of bowling he bowled. Only Rabada and Ngidi were true threats. That too Rabada only briefly in the 2nd innings. Other 2 were no threats.

No excuses for our batsmen, especially the senior ones for being consistently inconsistent.   Having said that, I think someone should also open a thread for our 'Bowling Collapses'.   In last two years, our pace bowling has been pathetic often on pitches which assist pace bowlers.  Eg: 2 tests in NZ (same NZ where Bangla pacers  outperformed our pacers by a country mile), WTC final 2nd inning (I m not saying we should hv defended 165, but our bowlers looked totally hopeless.  We could not hv defended even 300, given the way they were bowling). And yesterday's impactless bowling where we would hv lost even if we were defending 400.      So, 4 tests in last 2 yrs which can be recalled easily.  There could be few more I m unable to recall.

SA could not remove SL no 11 in SA. Things can happen if a feisty opponent batsman shows resolve. With one bowler short and spinners having no role it was hard work. With Rahul as captain odds were against us after first innings collapse

Pitch got very conducive to batting.

One man down

Less rest

Fitness issues with shardulaa.

What about overrated Aussies vs us in gabba rofl. What about Sydney pitch.

What about in England. When Cummins and co let the poms win with 350 target.

What about the brilliant 100 by yasir shah vs Cummins and co.

**** happens.

Man these *s expect a win in every game. This era is very tough. Lots of teams have good bowlers. Batsmen are always solid in their home conditions. Only reason many teams struggle overseas is due to t20 and lack of practice tour games.

Back in 2000 we had dedicated tour games prior to test series and no t20 and ipl distraction.

India are expected to win even with reserve players and being a man down. Lol. But that's good to see in a way. People expect a lot from us because we have talent. But need to be patient and not whine like old aunties about bowling which has been nothing short of class. One off bad game here and there means f all especially with a man down.

Blame our batsmen. 353 was the 1st innings average score. We scored 200. We lost it right there. Pitch got flatter and flatter. Only reason the two frauds like pujara and rahane could score in innings 2.

When we have a batting order of Pujara, Kohli, Rahane and Pant, once the opening partnership is broken, India can easily go from say 1/30 to 5/100 in the blink of an eye. In the examples given above this happened in at least ~7 times. So there is proof of the  validity of this.

In SENA its worse, because our "all-rounders" struggle after Pant too.

They say in the commentary that one wicket leads to two. In India's case, one wicket can lead to 5 wickets.

In Oz, 4+1 (4 bowlers; 1 AR) is a good option because of two reasons: 1. Ashwin/Jaddu can bat well and score runs, and 2. Pant can bat well and score runs.

In NZ and Eng, it is pitch dependent. There are some tracks which can be a bit flat or become flatter over time. On those tracks, 4+1 is good.

However, for SA, I am of the opinion that one should play 4 bowlers only on most (but not all) pitches, with the 5th bowler being a part-timer. This is because of the fact that pitches tend to be generally spicy and the 5th bowler does not have a big impact. Add to that the crucial fact that neither Ash or Pant have been particularly successful in SA as batters so far. I'd go with 7+4 in SA in 80% of cases.

Yes I agree with the strategy you suggested. Especially with the different conditions depending on which SENA country.

What India have lacked for some time, is a reputable top order batsmen that can bowl 5-10 overs in a Test to ease the 4 main frontline bowlers.

Indian teams of yesteryear had batsmen like  SRT, Ganguly, Sehwag all of which could easily bowl for a spell. Ganguly has even opened the bowling in a test and SRT has taken many crucial wickets over his career.

The current Indian batting lineup is just terrible in this regard, not a single player can roll their arm over.

I actually think Kohli could, but selfishly does not want to.

Not only that. Saffers are sneaky rofl. They purposely created pitches that get better to bat taking toss into account. They put these pitches out if they lose their first game etc.

Last time wanderers was spicy as he'll. They knew if it's spicy, Indian bowlers can roll them out. So what they did was to negate that effect by creating seaming ones that flatten out. Very smart. Fooled was good.

Had a nasty feeling about this when commies mentioned the average first innings score etc. It was 353. Second innings they mentioned at times got better to bat. I was thinking to myself about why he would say that. Haysman that is. Sneaky old crone.

Can't help but laugh lmao just like how we trucked pommies in India hahahah on that turning mamba Lel disguised a pink ball seam friendly pitch. Never will get old.
