Sgattick10 Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 Was going through Kuldeep Yadav's stats and he has great figures in all three formats.. Can he make a comeback to the team. I believe he has the talent all he need to do is work on his temperament and a supportive captain maybe.. What say? Cricket_Hacker 1
ShoonyaSifar Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 The only spinner, who if back on track, is an all format bowler. Has to be groomed as Ashwin's replacement and that process has to start soon. Ranji Trophy getting cancelled doesn't help at all. Some good spells there would have helped him immensely. Now it's a question of whether the TM has the confidence to pick him directly for LOIs vs WI/SL. Cricket_Hacker, Vijy, Sgattick10 and 1 other 1 3
neel roy Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 171 international wickets. Thats a good number to be honest !
vvvslaxman Posted January 10, 2022 Posted January 10, 2022 He deserves a come back. But his 75 to 79 mph range deliveries became somewhat hittable. With Jaddu as a left arm spinner in the side he was never going to be preferred. Not that Jaddu vastly improved. But Kuldeep got cartered around. Honestly even Rashid got thrashed around in that world cup by Morgan. He is a genuine wicket taking option. While it is not his fault that he lost his place, but he should realize he has room for improvement. Probably if he can develop a flipper he can be more lethal. Made a fool out of Babar Azam in two encounters. He should improve his batting as well to make a come back. Look at malnourished Axar. He had a dream debut series. Still his place was uncertain. What did he do. Played a couple of decent lower order knocks. He is not Rahane/Pujara to keep getting chances.
Vijy Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 there are several reasons why he got sidelined, even putting aside his own drop in form and confidence. In Ind: prep of dust bowls or big turners, favoring likes of axar, ashwin, and jaddu over kul. overseas: preference for spin bowlers who bat, ergo ashwin and/or jaddu. hence, to be selected, he will need to not only improve his bowling to his prior peak levels, but also raise batting and fielding capabilities to compete with jaddu/ashwin

Imagine expecting Rahane/Pujara/Kohli to improve their bowling ability to keep their place lol. Ashwin/Jadeja have set the standard that spinner must be able to bat. Sundar took it to another level. Seamers can afford to be poor with bat. Understandable as it is the hardest job in the side. But collectively everybody has to enhance their skills. It is beyond belief guys like Rohit/Rahul/Rahane/Pujara/Kohli never makes any attempt to bowl. Atleast KL Rahul keeps. Others don't do much. Kohli has dropped 20% of his catches?

Complete lack of bowling from batters is hugely disappointing. I see players come through U19 as so-called "all-rounders" and then they stop bowling completely. happened to jaiswal, sarfaraz, etc. the list goes on. Even in current U19, hardly any of top 3-4 seem to bowl. I agree that pace bowling is bloody hard, but we have some real rabbits with the bat (like Mohd. Slogger Siraj). Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc are as fast, if not faster, than our pacers and yet both are pretty useful batters. Stan AF 1

Problem is starc and Cummins both played as opening and middle order batsmen at junior level before switching to bowling. Those skills are never forgotten. Ingrained.
Real McCoy Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 wrist spinners need to be persisted when they are going through ups and downs early on their career. Shane Warne was carted around the park in his first few tests. AB and Mark Taylor saw his talent and persisted with him. That's why he suceeded. Kully has that potential. It seems the TM has been rough on him. They didn't even play him on home tests after that great start in his debut. It was 5 years ago. Kohli is really stupid when it comes to personnel management.

Whatever, whenever I've seen him bat. He looked assured. Has a decent technique and can play shots. Probably need to get a 100 in Ranji to impress tm management/selectors. Also made be work on his fielding.

But he has to take it to next level to compete with Axar. I think Ashwin will retire soon. So he will competing with two other left armers.
Cricket_Hacker Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 He can certainly play as third spinner in home tests. Should play in upcoming series against SL instead of Jayant Yadav

Lord Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 Should be our lead Test spinner after Ashwin retires
