Kuldeep deserves a come back, he needs a good captain & management who can back him despite failures. If utter crap like Chahal can still keep getting selected then Kuldeep is no worse. Kuldeep still has lots to offer to Indian cricket.

And the only potential all format spinner right now (Jadeja is 33 and may have another 18-24 months at best).

he hasnt done anything to deserve a comeback - he was dropped for bad form...he didnt play any cricket , infact coming out of injury n no cricket so how did he improve ??

It's common sense that he has been brought back to try something different because the current bowling looks toothless & innocuous. This has got nothing to do with his recent form, he has been brought back for the kind of bowler he is, left arm chinaman. Now that he has been brought, he should be given a long rope to sink or swim. Look at SA cricket,even in their turmoil they have backed Shamsi & he has now started giving them rewards. KKR was the worst franchise for him, they never got over their infatuation of mystery spinners. Hopefully Kuldeep goes to a franchise who are actually looking at him as a strike bowler.

Back to the series, India cannot play both wrist spinners together, both are not capable bat, so need other spinner who can bat. Kuldeep & Sundar should play

another option is to play a leggie who can bat - like markaneya, chahar, or bishnoi. but I don't see it happen anytime soon

Kohli has been struggling with the bat for a while now. Although he occasionally displays flashes of what he's capable of with an odd 50plus; its still a far cry from those grinding methodical innings of the past where he'd seal the match in India's favour. Nowadays, apart from his nemesis the wide out-swingers, deliveries spinning away (Leg spin or Left Arm Orthodox) trouble him no end.

 

Mercurial performances and god fathers(if any)in management aside, I feel what also keeps him in the reckoning, are the ad revenue (if he is in the side) expectations from sponsors. They stand to lose out on ad slots filmed for $$$$ with his smug mug. Fewer ad slot sales for BCCI.

They are in India and can call replacement. In England, they didn't have XI players to field.
 
Also tested players were tested positive before joining the team. Team hasn't come together yet for practice. They are all in quarantine and testing was done on 31st before them entering the quarantine.

Replacement players have to come from a bubble which takes time

His batting is good, his bowling is definitely not international standard. They should give him more time in the middle but whom will you drop?
But I see no place for him if we play both Deepak Chahar and Shardul because both are good hitters and better bowlers than Iyer.

I would bowl an average or part time spinner against him.

 

Kohli will not only find a way to get out but also use up a DRS for any LBW decision.

Sad state of affairs, why the TM thinks that replacement will appear out of nowhere. Atleast give them a consistent chance in these series. That's how replacement are found and groomed.
