But I've also not seen a bottom-hand batsman enjoy a revival of sorts like Azhar, a top-handed batsman, had. This is not stats driven or a technical assessment but with Kohli one thing I have observed is his luck has deserted him. In his peak a lot of his good knocks especially in SENA where always circumspect at the start. Luck is not a factor we consider but I feel that’s also a huge factor in his case. also doesn’t seem to have the motivation or drive. From MC Bcing even when he got a good ball to goofy smiles for poor shots, lot is going on out there. There isn’t any issue with technique etc, it’s still the same as it has always been. Also bowlers have figured him out and he seems to be under mental pressure too and then he rubbed a lot of powerful people the wrong way. Lot of moving parts to nail it down to one thing. Ability to rock back and play the ball as late as possible against swing bowling is an art. But contrastingly he loves to kill the swing before that. SO he stands outside the crease where he gives himself very little time to play other type of balls. You cannot fix this.. It is the same reason why he is missing the conventional off spin line completely and letting the ball through the gate. Too much of a front foot game. Gill's problem is more technical (against incoming balls) than reflex. He has one of the best late adjusting technique. Just that he has to fine tune few aspect. His technique has gone to the dogs these days. See his dismissal against Marco. Angled bat. He had this issue but he corrected them in 2018 but all the old habits are back now. Many players have rediscovered their touch with slight alteration in technique. Ganguly/Azharuddin with two eyed stance. With plethora coaches, former legends available he should have had this issue sorted out. Find a percentage game that suits him and comes back strongly. I don't think it as simplistic as bottom vs top handed players. loss of technique and drive/hunger, development of new bowling plans, deteriorating in eyesight or reflexes, etc. all matter a great deal. this Asif prediction strikes me as his typical showboating. Don Bradman was quite bottom-handed from the videos. He didn't really suffer much of a decline despite 20 yr test career. although his case may be extreme, my point is that bottom hand vs top hand is not the only consideration.
