Apparently they have arm twisted the lankans...  They are already in so much debt of China.  Hambantota is on a 99 year lease to Chinese already.  Nothing much they can do here.

I have met a few srilankans in my life and almost all seem to have negative view of India. Maybe others have a different experience so to claim Srilankans feel indebted by India is a naïve statement in my view.
